Bout of Books Read-a-thon

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 6.0 team

This is the first time I have ever joined something like this, but as I am on holiday I thought I would participate in a very gentle sort of way, as it is a way of connecting with other book bloggers.

My goals:

To read six of the seven days - the 9th will be out as going to see The Hobbit, and spend time with a friend.

To read 3  hours each of those days.  Possibly reading about three books in that time.

I will write a short review post for any book I read and also update how I got on at the end of each day.

I will spend some time each day as well blog hopping and commenting.

I would like to participate in one twitter chat.

New Zealand Time! We are a day ahead to some places!

1st day: 7th Jan Monday.
Read for almost 4 hours and in that time = 286 pages, completing book had already started.
Already Home by Susan Mallery.
Also listened to audio book about 45min while walking.  At Last by Jill Shalvis

2nd day: 8th Tuesday
Read for about 4 hours today and 310 pages read. Reread a book: Suzanne Brockmann's Hawken's  Heart.
Also listened to about 30min of my audio book - while not walking!
Took part in the Twitter Chat which was fun, 8am Tuesday my NZ time.

9th  Wednesday
Read for 2 hours and read 133 pages.
Completed book I was reading that I started yesterday:
Guitar Highway Rose by Brigid Lowry a teen book. Loved it.
Went to movie Hobbit: 3 hours! Enjoyed it and chuckled through lots of it. I have never read the book and am not likely too, but was worth seeing.

10th Thursday
Read for 3 hours and read 208 pages.
Completed a book that I gave 2 stars to. Didn't like it.
Listened to an hour audio - Jill Shalvis continued.

11th  Friday
Read for 4 hours and more -lost track.   Pages = 249  Loving the book Gentle Rain by Deborah Smith.
Listened to audio for about 50 minutes, covering 4 chapters.
Love it when the book I choose to read turns out to be one I enjoy. Opposite of yesterday!

12th  Saturday
Read for 3 - 4 hours.  Pages = 222    Plus middle grade graphic novel.
Completed book - short one - The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan.
Also completed Gentle Rain by Deborah Smith.
Listened to audio for 30min and about half way through book.
Feeling a little reading fatigue at this stage!

13th   Sunday
Read for about 4 hours today. 160 pages, slower reading as some of it was professional reading.
Also started Little Brother by Cory Doctorow which is YA near future cyberpunk science fiction.
I also got in an hour of audio.
So this is the completion for me, although I am probably off to read a little more before bed. Tomorrow I will total what I have achieved. Interesting week!

  3. Thank you for visiting my blog! BoB is so much fun :) It's my 3rd or 4th time doing it now.

For page numbers - if you go to the book on Goodreads, most of the time the Kindle version will have page numbers listed. That's how I figure out all mine! Good luck on your goals!

  13. That is actually a great idea to go out and listen to an audio book as you walk around. It certainly breaks up the hours of just sitting in a reading chair with a book all day.

Happy reading, hope you meet your goals!
