2015 Women's Fiction Reading Challenge

Women's Fiction Reading Challenge Button

This challenge is for those who enjoy reading women's fiction.  How might you define this type of book?  I define it as any book that is mainly written for women (although that doesn't stop men reading them),  they may contain elements of romance but the book mainly centres around the development of women or a woman throughout the book.  Women centered books, that might focus on the issues relating to women, it may be a mainstream novel, slightly less or slightly more.  This website probably best describes what I am thinking of Women Fiction Writers.

The Romance Writers of America organization defines women's fiction as, "a commercial novel about a woman on the brink of life change and personal growth. Her journey details emotional reflection and action that transforms her and her relationships with others, and includes a hopeful/upbeat ending with regard to her romantic relationship."

Take whichever definition suits you - both of the ones linked above or write your own definition  in your challenge post and then join in.

Levels

  • Motivated 1- 5
  • Savvy     6 - 10
  • Classy    11- 20
  • Go-getter  20 -30
  • Fearless  30+
Books may overlap with other challenges. Any format of book is fine.  Choose your level and write a commitment post or set aside a Goodreads shelf for this challenge, if you don't have a blog or would prefer to work that way.

There will be a link for reviews although reviews are not a condition of completing the challenge, they are just an extra:
January to June   now closed. Even if read in this time just link to the one below.

July to December

All those who complete the challenge will go into the draw for a $25 prize to be in the form of a book from the Book Depository or voucher for U.S. Amazon store.  A Gone Reading voucher is also an option.

  1. I have a question about the challenge. Would a author like Catherine Anderson, Luanne rice or Kristin Hannah count as a woman fiction?

    1. Vikki certainly I would count Luanne Rice and Kristin Hannah in there. I love Catherine Anderson and I would put some of her writing in there - maybe all, she does write more romance but she explores issues. The way I see this challenge - the reader taking part defines what women's fiction means to them and then goes ahead.

    1. Hi Faith Hope Cherrytea!
Did you do a post for this on your blog? Take the URL of your post and put it in a message like you would post any other message and add this URL for this Challenge. If this photo does not pop up, then come back here, "Save Image As" to your computer, go back to Facebook, click on the camera, and upload 'this photo" to your Facebook post! It WILL work! That is what I did! I do that a LOT! It ALWAYS works that way!
      Hope this little tutorial helps!

  3. This is an interesting challenge and I'd love to join. I had a question too: Would a woman-centric book written by a male writer writer count too? I am thinking of something like The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne by Brian Moore. I wish it would but the final decision is yours. Please do let me know. Thanks.

    1. Neer, I can't see why not, obviously some men are going to write books that focus on a woman/women and I think this would fit within the boundary.

  4. This sounds like a great idea. Even though I'm trying to cut back on challenges for 2015, I'm very tempted by this one. And I do love that gorgeous button!

  5. I think I'd like this one. I'm trying to broaden my reading a little, as I read mostly series books like Stephanie Plum or John Sandford's Prey Series. I have recently been looking at the website, SheReads.org and I think a lot of the book recommendations there would fit this challenge, so I'm going to give it a whirl with the 11-20 Classy level. I think I can manage 1 a month for this challenge along with my other reading. I don't have a blog so I'll be making a bookshelf on my GoodReads acct. Looking forward to it. Thanks for hosting.

    1. Welcome in Betty. A shelf on Goodreads will be perfect and yes She Reads has many great recommendations in women's fiction. I hope to read a few more myself in 2015.

  6. Would you mind an Amazon *Canada* gift certificate as an alternative? Please let me know at my blog so I see the reply. Our currencies are nearly the same. Nothing to it except sending from ".ca" instead. :) https://cmriedel.wordpress.com/riedel-challenges-2015/

  7. Thanks for concurring that it's the same, whichever webpage provides the electronic gift voucher! :) I'll have time to sign up after new year's eve. The only thing that would please me more, is finding you intrigued by one or more of my reading themes as well! Sincerely, Carolyn. https://cmriedel.wordpress.com/riedel-challenges-2015/

  8. I'm excited to get started reading. I do the most of reading in this genre on my Kindle, there are tons of free books centered around women.

  10. Thank you SO MUCH for holding this Women's Fiction Reading Challenge! You and 'maybe' one or two other blogs might be the ONLY ones doing a true Women's Fiction Reading Challenge!! Thank you SO much! I would really think this would have a LOT more Challenges for it than what it does when the majority of books out there are Women's Fiction! I LOVE it! Thank you!!

  12. I've already read 29 books for this challenge, so far, and there are many more on my list. Think I will move up from Classy (11-20) to Fearless (30+). Might as well go all the way.

  13. Betty you have knocked this challenge out of the park and provided me with much reading material that I also want to read!
