It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?
Sheila at Book Journey runs It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Well last week was a big week for me as I retired from forty years of teaching, mostly at the same school!  My favourite gift was a drawing completed by an eleven year old student in her own time. I love it!

Last week I read:
This finished up a series - Whispering Mountain
Obviously a western!
Zane Grey started me on westerns!

A well written cozy mystery

Reread and Audiobook version
Excellent.

At present I am reading:
A Light in the Wilderness by Jane Kirkpatrick.
This is fiction based on a real life person - African American Letitia Carson back in America in the mid 1800's.  I didn't realise this as I began to read, but going online when I was 20% into the book I found a little more information.

One Plus One by Jojo Moyes - audiobook

Up next:

The COYER challenge has begun so for the next few months I will be reading some free or almost cost free ebooks.  You know those ones you click on because they are free, but then I never get around to reading!  NetGalley books can count too.

There is also a giveaway hop - Midwinter's Eve (cough! cough!) I am participating in even though summer here!  You might as well take a chance.  $15 Amazon voucher or Book Dep book is up for the taking.  If you have left a comment on this post you have already fulfilled the condition that gives you 3 chances!

Blogoversary (2nd) on the 28th of December and I will be running a Giveaway from 28th to 11th January.

  4. I'm just starting on my teaching career as you're retiring - forty years is such an achievement! Congrats! That's such a gorgeous picture.

I have two - three? - Jojo Moyes books to read, I'm so behind now. I started reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips a few years ago and really liked her style. Looking forward to reading more of her books.

    1. Shannon this is my first Jojo Moyes book and it lends itself well to audio. I thoroughly enjoy SEP, she certainly has her own style.

  5. Congrats on your retirement, what a long and fulfilling career ... you were obviously much loved by the looks of that picture ... love it, very sweet!! Ooh I hope you love One Plus One as much as I did. I'm adding Breathing Room to my wishlist and I'll keep an eye out for your review of A Light in the Wilderness, just by the trailer, I think I'd enjoy it.

I'm certainly looking forward to another year of visiting one of my fave blogs :) Have a wonderful, safe, healthy and happy Christmas.

    1. Thanks Sheree. Of all the gifts I received on retirement that was the one that gave me the catch in my voice and a few tears. I've always loved this student's art on her cards etc so was special when out of the blue she presented me with this on the last day.
One Plus One is working out well on audio - haven't dozed once! I think you would like A Light in the Wilderness. Had a couple of spots where it jumped suddenly, but still gave it 5 stars. May be still on NetGalley - that's where I got it.

  10. Congratulations on your retirement. I still have 1 1/2 years before I have done my 40. Thanks for linking to COYER - I have been wondering what that stood for. I read lots of ebooks because so many of my review books come that way. Come see my week here if you get a chance. Happy Holidays!

  13. Hi Kathryn,

    Happy Retirement and Happy Blogoversary.

I love the picture, it is nice to see a child doing something original and diffferent of their own volition - so much more personal and appreciated, I'm sure:)

Seasons Greetings to yourself and your family and Best Wishes for a Very Happy New Year.
