The Scarfilis and Donnatellis love deeply and protect fiercely. “Family takes care of family” is the code they live by.

So when a hacker threatens Gianna Donnatelli’s life, Dr. Joe Scarfili is determined to keep her safe, only he has no police or tech experience, and Gianna’s penchant for aiding Detroit’s underprivileged is the same kind of altruism that got his wife killed. Gianna protects Joe with the same unyielding resolve.

Gianna pushes all his insecurity buttons. Joe tries her patience like no other. But together they’ll fight to save each other and their love… Or die trying.
My thoughts banner
Silent Sentry  is a romantic suspense novel, set in Detroit. It is full of action, twists and turns and indeed your head may be turned upside down with all the wheelings and dealings that go on. If you are like me you will end up suspecting just about everyone of doing something deeply underhand! Most I am happy to say didn't deserve my suspicion.

Gianna is a clever, intelligent woman, she has founded a tech company that is set to revolutionise the medical world along with two friends Faye and Peter. She is also the daughter of a wealthy Italian who lives at Grosse Point. Gianna likes to help those less well off and lives in the poorer area of Detroit.

Joe is an experienced, gifted surgeon and his family is a friend of Gianna's family. There is a wide Italian network and 'family looks out for family'. When Joe and Gianna meet up again in trying circumstances their relationship takes off on a new path. Gianna has always had a thing for Joe, although he has been married previously to Meggie who met an untimely death. That brings in Pat the detective who is a close friend of Joe. There is more to that but if you read the book, I'll let you discover it for yourself.

This book would make a good action movie, I loved the opening scene which set up the story and left a little bit of a chill and foreboding in the air. There are many disquieting events, some very violent. Explosions, fights, drive by shootings fill this book with tension. It will keep you guessing until the end.

  2. I don't read a lot of romantic suspense, but I should since I love thrillers and romance! Maybe I'll start with this one!

  3. Is this a series, or stand alone? The author's name sounds familiar, but maybe I just read about her on Goodreads. I think I would like this, I like a good romantic suspense, and the Detroit setting should be different. I don't read too many books set there.

Thanks for sharing this. I'll have to check it out further.

    1. Hi Rita,
So far this is a standalone, though readers are asking for more stories with the Donnatelli and Scarfili families. My other books are women's fiction/contemporary romance, so that's maybe why you've heard my name. Yeah, I like introducing writers to new, interesting settings. Have a great day!

    1. Blodeudd, you suck at guessing. Is that a good thing or frustrating?

  5. This sounds pretty good; glad it was a good one and has some substance. I like it when the main characters have interesting occupations.

    1. Hi Wooly Cakes,
I like a book with substance too--as long as it holds my interest with a good plot and characters. Simple stories I can predict usually bore me. And I got so tired of navy seals/emotionally scarred cops/burned-out detectives heros. Besides, It's their job to protect; they expect (thrive on?) the adrenaline rush and risk. But most of the time I prefer reading about the ordinary people who have to rise to the challenge of being a hero.
