It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Well as I sit here to start this post I feel like going outside to shoot a short video of the wind and rain that our summer brings again today. Oh we did see the sun a couple of times this week so I wouldn't forget what its like. However that said, I'd rather have it that the 48 degrees C that Sydney got yesterday.

I have been sewing a lot and really enjoying the whole learning experience of quilting. To be honest a little obsessive! My reading has taken a bit of a back seat really. And now I am about to brave the bad weather to go buy some more quilting thread and visit the library for a book I want to pick up.

What I read last week:

I enjoyed this story of women, friendship, love, marriage, loss and other challenges. It was well written and I look forward to reading on with this author.

I love the cover of this one and it really suits the book well. It is a dual time book - 1930's and today and includes a mystery about a house. It was done well and as a dual time book really worked. Review to follow.

I finished listening to this book - enjoyed it. Review to follow.

What I am reading at present:

From my Kindle TBR.... just about to start this one.

And still listening to The Chocolate Thief by Laura Florand.

Posts from last week:
Staying For Good   Catherine Bybee
Who's Afraid Too    Maria Lewis

  1. Hope the weather shapes up for you. It has been mild here, enough to walk outside if the wind gusts weren't to strong! The House of Secrets is intriguing to me. Have a great week.

  3. As long as you're enjoying quilting I think it's great that it's captured your interest! Mine are pretty much limited to books and TV (oh, and food of course!).

  4. That... sounds really hot in Sydney. Looks like you had a pretty good reading week. I do like dual timelines in books sometimes, it's nice when an author can bring those together.

  7. Your quilting sounds so interesting. I was curious...when you put together quilted animal shapes, are they made up of squares and triangles or does anything go? My post will publish at midnight PST. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I'll post my link above.

    1. Depends Stefanie as some shapes can be appliqued on to a quilt which is what i have done in the past.

  8. I see the weather in NZ is doing something similar to us here in Western Australia, where has summer gone?! Wind and rain! We had extreme rain resulting in flooding on Thursday/Friday last week. Lets hope summer makes its return this week for both of us!
Your quilting efforts sound fantastic, so enjoyable.
I'm looking forward to your review on The House of Secrets, still working on mine.
I've listed The Orphan's Tale on my TBR list, I saw a great review for it this morning.
Have a lovely week and fingers crossed for a better week weather wise.

  16. Quilting is something I'd like to learn someday - though I'm not much of at sewing so IDK. The House of Secrets cover is great and I love the idea of a dual time book - I think I may be adding that one to my list. Have a great week and happy reading :)

I loved THE ORPHAN'S TALE...Ms. Jenoff's books are always so good and very informative. I always learn something new about WWII after reading her books.

  28. Fun meme. I just found this thru a blog I follow. I've read Broken Wheel but the errors and flaws in it annoyed me. I'll enjoy exploring what everyone is reading!

  29. I've been reading about your weather....sounds like global warming gone mad. Hopefully you have a more normal week this week. Skipping reading to quilt sounds more productive than what I usually skip it for - TV.

  30. Not only is the weather crazy in NZ. In my part of Australia we had a 42C day followed by a 19C one. Love those southerly winds! Hope you get some good weather soon.
