It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 17th April

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Another week speeds by. Hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and season.

I went to the optician last week for eye testing and new glasses. I have had these ones for over nine years and they were beginning to fall apart. Also prescription was changed a little so looking forward to it. I wear them all the time so no wonder they were rather wobbly!

I read, sewed and gardened... well just a little gardening. It has been so wet here that really I have the perfect excuse not to get out there!!

I have started to keep an account of the quilts I make now on another blog - so that I can know what I have made and how many etc. They were beginning to accumulate and I'd lost count.

If any of you are crafters or have a great eye for colour do take a look at The Splendid Sampler - Rinse and Repeat to suggest to me a colour that will just brighten up the fabric I have chosen.

What I read last week:

Review book, Rachael Johns never disappoints me, great Australian country outback story. Review to follow later.

I sped through this 15hr 45 min audiobook narrated by Isabel Keating. It was a reread and so wonderful on audio. I love doing rereads of books that I have loved and after eight or so years have forgotten enough of it to love it up all over again. This is the series that made me yearn after quilts and quilting.

The Little Breton Bistro is a review book. I didn't request it but the publicist sent it anyway even if I didn't review it. ( I do have a review for  it).  I loved it actually, it is about a sixty year old woman breaking free of the shackles that bind her. It hooked me right in.

From my recently bought shelf...
A fun and warm small town romance that was enjoyable.

What I am reading at present:

From my TBR shelf, I love Jodi Thomas' books so expecting I will love this one. Just starting.

I'm listening to...
Narrated by Christine Traister. #3 in Luanne Rice's Hubbard Point series. I actually have read the rest of the series but this one missed out somehow, but doesn't really matter that it is out of order.

  3. Sounds like you were about due for new glasses! I went to the eye doctor for the first time this year (I inherited good eyesight from my dad so I'd never been). The exam was really interesting.

The Little Breton Bistro sounds good. I love the cover of the Jodi Thomas book. I haven't read anything by her yet but I will have to give her books a try sometime.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

  4. My son's glasses only last about two years before he manages to break them or scratch them from beyond repair.

I'm back from my trip. It didn't turned out as planned but we had fun.

  5. It's been very wet here too although the last two days have been nice. And yay for new glasses. Glad to hear the Night The Lights Went Out is good. I've seen several positive reviews for it.

  7. I'm impressed you could go 9 years with one pair of glasses! When I wore glasses (well, I mostly wore contacts, but I always had glasses as a backup), my prescription changed almost every year. I had Lasik a few years ago, but I think I might need to have glasses again. Sigh...

I read that Luanne Rice book many years ago, I remember enjoying it.

  14. Happy Easter to you Kathryn. Hope you had a lovely long weekend.

Great news about the glasses :-)

I agree Rachael Johns never disappoints. I love her rurals as well as recent branch out to life lit. I'm jealous you have already read Talk of the Town. I'm looking forward to its release.

I will have to check out your review of The Breton Bistro. I won a copy on a Facebook competition but haven't got around to reading it yet.

Have a lovely week, reading, quilting and gardening :-)

We are finally getting some warm weather. Yeah!! I transplanted some of my hostas. They are a hardy plant. :)

I started THE BOOK OF SUMMER...it is pretty good.

Love the cover and the title of THE SECRETS OF ROSA LEE.

    Have a wonderful week, Kathryn.

    1. You have great concentration to listen to an audiobook and quilt. I feel I'd miss so much important facts in the plot if I tried to do that but I know you're an experienced quilter so it's more cake for you than sewing for me :O). Do you have cute teahouses around your neighborhood? And thank you for watching the video. It was interesting to know about this man who lived during the MLK days and who had experienced segregation.

  25. Your quilts are gorgeous! I bow down to your quilting greatness =)
Now I am going to check out the Little Breton Bistro. Your short description make Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman pop into my head, and I unexpectedly loved that book.
