Full House Reading Challenge 2015

Full House Reading Challenge 2015

Challenge Guidelines:

  • Challenge will run from Jan 1st to December 31st 2015
  • Write and publish a post stating your intention to participate. In the post please include the Challenge graphic and a link back to this post. Then link your intention post at the bottom of this post.  Make sure it is the actual post and not just a generic link to your blog.
  • Entries will be accepted up until the end of September 2015.
  • Add your reviews back here on the link in this post. At the end of every three months there will be a U.S. $12 prize with a book of your choice from the Book Depository or U.S. Amazon voucher, for the entries. There will be a new linky then for the next quarter and so on to the end of December.
  • Reviews are not mandatory and if you prefer to keep a list of the books read and the category they cross off the card, then you can still enter for the completion of a Full House by linking to that list.   *Added 24th December to clarify.
  • Link your reviews
  • January/February/Marc
  • April/May/June
  • July/August/September

  • Each review can only be linked up once in the year. However it doesn't matter when you read the book in 2015 - which month, just link as you remember or have time. So if you read it in January you may not get around to linking it until say... May. That is fine.
  • Books may cross over from other challenges that you are doing.
  • Now open a post to link in a summary post for the challenge for those who have completed a full house. This will close on the 2nd January 2016  and a winner will be chosen using random.org for a U.S. $50 prize which again can be used to buy books at the Book Depository or be received as an Amazon voucher.

                            Link Full House post here

The Challenge:

  • Complete the card below.  You can do it in any order you wish.  You are allowed "one free exchange", if there is something on the square you really dislike you may change it to something of your choice. Once you have played this free choice that is it. Mention the exchange in the final summary post.
Full House Reading Challenge 2015

If you have any questions - please leave a comment.  It is 25 books - that's a challenge, however the way I play it, I read the book and then see if there is a square I am able to mark off.  I love to do reading challenges, but I make it a priority to read what I like mostly, so my challenges serve my reading, not the other way round.

    1. Thanks Jamie - I think they will be fairly easy, wanted to change categories from last year - had a heap of notes and then lost them, so quickly thought again.

  3. I'm in !
But I don't really understand what a Novella means and A Top Book of 2015 for You can't be counted as a category I think, how can you find what you will like most if you haven't read it? I mean A Top Book should be something we tell other people that it is good not something we search to read, right?

    1. Diyah a novella is like a short book, usually longer than a short story but shorter than a novel. They are usually under 200 pages. For the top book (or another way to say it, book you liked best) no you won't know as yet what that is, so it won't be something you mark off until later in the year. The books don't have to be named before you begin the challenge - you discover them as you go mostly! Hope this helps.

  5. Hi! I'm really excited about joining this! So, can a book count for more than one square? Like a novella published in 2014 by an author new to me could count for three squares? Or just one?

    1. Sarah, thanks for joining. No a book can only count for one square, I actually never thought of being able to strike three in one blow! But no, just one book per square.

  8. I will surely join this challenge also this year!!
I have a little problem yet… what do you mean with "a keeper" :-/ sorry, I can't find a clear translation for it :-(

    1. Hi, by a 'keeper' is a book that you will keep on your bookshelf, it was loved so much, you might even intend to reread it. It is slang I guess in a way, but a word used by readers to explain a book they really, really loved.

  9. What about a book from library? Can it be "a keeper"?

What do you mean by "outstanding hero"?

And lastly, a setting you'd like to visit is a country, or let's say Arrakis or other place in space?

Many of these are relevant to each person. I guess you could define a book from the library as "a keeper" although I think people normally refer to this as one on their actual shelf. However I don't mind if a library book is nominated. It is up to the participant to define their outstanding hero, obviously a character who stays in your mind after you've read the book and you really liked them. Yes no reason I guess to have imaginary place or space - one day people may visit it!

    2. After a thought and checking my last year's challenge, I decided not to join it. It's too repetitive comparing to last year, and too easy to be called challenge. Just picking "random books" I'd make it (which was more or less true for the last year). There is nothing I wouldn't read anyway for my other challenges, which relates to "calendar events" or "author's countries across the world".
"Author outside your own country"? Is that a challenge? I think any reader outside USA/UK reads them anyway... "Author new to you" is read by anybody also. Last year I was "challenges, challenges!" but the real challenge was only remembering about the challenges, which I didn't pay attention to, after all.
      Good luck with the challenge.

Can't see why not! If you go to the trouble of rereading I think it counts! I have struggled with rereads this year, so admire anyone who makes time for them.

  11. I think I'll unofficially join this challenge
since I'm not really good with writing reviews and stuff but I like challenging myself

Sure go for it. In fact I notice I haven't made reviews mandatory and must add a note in that they aren't. For those who like to do this I have made a small giveaway each quarter. You would still be eligible to put your name in the hat for completing the challenge giveaway if you can link up the names of the books somewhere like Goodreads etc.

  12. I'm in! However, the links are not working for me and I am wondering how I will be able to submit the links to my posts. If you can help, that would be amazing. Thanks.

So is the link working for you for the sign up? I haven't put the link live yet for the reviews though, so that isn't working. But really I am checking out if the sign up link works for you?

      Delete
    2. No, the sign up link is not working for me. I don't know the reason or source of why it does not work and apologize for any problems this creates on your side of the situation. I will take any help you have to offer, thanks.

I am not sure what is happening. When I clicked on the link there was a little notice saying '"rouble clicking on the link click here" have you tried that way of doing it? Other than that I suggest you put your link in a comment and I will post it for you, or email it to me: thebookdate(at)gmail(dot)com and I can put links in for you. The only other thing I can think of is what browser are you using? I will do a little research and see if I can find any other reasons. So sorry you are having this problem.

  13. This was such fun last year! If only I wasn't a total dunderhead I would have filled in the full house last year. I only had Published in 2014, Library Book, Free Choice and Won or Borrowed left at teh end of August (I see that I messed up my X's as well). Then I lost my marbles and stopped remembering to update. Sigh.

    Oh well. I'm in !

    1. Yes, I know what you mean about updating. I am entering a lot of challenges this year and I can see it is going to be a challenge to stay organised. Perhaps there should be a challenge for that too!!

  14. I'm in ... I did actually completed the challenge last year Kathryn and loved doing it although you wouldn't know that because I never updated lol. Maybe I should host the Stay Organised Challenge haha

  18. Dear Kathryn

I have finished this challenge but for one square. Plz tell me is there a difference b/w free choice and free exchange? Waiting eagerly for your reply so that I can do a wrap-up post. Thanks for hosting it for next year too. I'll definitely be joining.

    1. Neer yes there is a difference so fire ahead!!

      Delete
    2. Please explain the difference. I mean is it that Free Choice means you read anything and Free Exchange is that you do not read according to one box but choose a different box and thus read two of the latter box? Plz fast.

      Delete
    3. Speeding over! Neer the free choice means you can put in any book you like you've read in 2015. Free exchange is exactly as you say. I am sure you've completed it. Go for it.
