It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
I've thought about it and I've decided I am going to move over to WordPress.com. I am going to have to cut my losses for some of the styling on this blog that I do love, but the whole Blogger commenting system is just so useless. I need those reminders in my email which of course Blogger has cut out. I read somewhere that every year Google cuts out something so looks like the email alert of comments on Blogger blogs. I missed some comments, which of course is my fault but I need the alert!
And there are other issues I won't go into, if you are with Blogger you probably know them yourself and choose to live with them but I have decided to shift. I like the WordPress experience a little better. I have my quilting blog there and have used it before when I was teaching. So it is with some regret though that I will move.
I did export this blog about a year ago to the WordPress site and have in the last week been moving over some of my posts from the last year. I won't move everything and will just leave some posts only here. They will all be here. I am not sure how that will mess with duplicating material as I am not doing any fancy things to stop that being picked up. My theory is I am such a small blogger it won't affect anything!
I intend to make the switch in August, best scenario at the beginning of August, but could be into August, but I will leave a link post once I move.
What I read last week:
From the library
From the review pile
What I am reading at present:
From the library, a genre I rarely read but hope to read through this series until I tire of it!
I wish I could say I was listening but I haven't even started my latest one. I will when I feel the motivation.

For Review
I've been considering moving my blog over to Wordpress as well, but it just seems so overwhelming!
ReplyDeleteMelinda, I've been contemplating it too. Was looking at Nosegraze's plan of hosting and domain plus maintenance but at $20/month Idk if I can take the plunge.
DeleteBest of luck on the move. I've thought about it as well, but seem like too much work. Looking forward to The Summer Wives!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to WordPpress. I love it there. I started on Blogger, added some on WordPress, and soon all of my blogs were there.
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing such good things about The Summer Wives. Enjoy your week!
Oops, I bumbled WordPress (not two p's in it!).
DeleteI'll be curious to see what you think of the Bibliophile Mystery series. The author and the setting are local to me (literally across the bay from me). Have a good week. Good luck wrangling your blog.
ReplyDeleteOoh I hope the move goes well for you. It's something I should think about doing too.
ReplyDeleteHomicide in Hardcover looks fun :)
Kathryn is Jen and Kellee still doing the kid lit one?
ReplyDeleteAngelica yes I do believe Kellee is. I see a post there for the 16/7. I usually post earlier than she does so her post will come later. As I live in a different time zone.
DeleteThanks Kathryn! Keep us posted on the WP move as a few of us are interested in the process.
DeleteI still don't care for WordPress. Blogger makes it so simple for me. Hope you have a smooth move over to the dark side. :)
ReplyDeleteHomicide in Hardcover looks right up my alley. Have a great week.
The getting comments emailed to you glitch was fixed. If you need instructions, let me know ... I'll talk you through (email me at BFish(dot)Reads(at)gmail(dot)com. Or just make the switch to WordPress. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been considering a move to WordPress, too. But I've been blogging for ten years. I can't move my entire blog at once as I wish I could. I honestly wish I could post at both places. I've had a blog at WordPress for years.
ReplyDeleteDeb, Ashley from Nosegraze moves you over free but with her hosting and domain pkg which includes maintenance. It's $20/month all inclusive.
DeleteI moved from Blogger to WP 7 or 8 years ago and never looked back. There was a bit of a learning curve but you already know how things work so that shouldn't be an issue. I hope things go smoothly for you and I'll watch for the link when things are in place. Have a good week, Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteMary did you DIY your move? Are you doing self hosted?
DeleteI'm on Blogger and am happy with it. It works for me with what I want to do, although I love the Book Blogger Plug-in for reviews/challenges that can only be used on WordPress. For me, that would be the only reason I'd switch. I hope the move goes well for you!
ReplyDeleteHomicide in Hardcover looks fun! Have a great week.
As Beth said, the emailing comments to you was fixed. I think that happened during the whole privacy upgrade in May. I've tried WordPress and I still think about it from time to time, but Blogger is easier for me right now. Good luck with your switch. I hope it all goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I just said the same thing on my blog! I am moving to wordpress in August, but end of August. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe House at Saltwater Point looks good!
Erin are you diying the move and will you be self hosting? Also considering moving over but just trying to see my different options.
DeleteI still like blogger. I actually am afraid to move my entire blog to WordPress....what is the process like? Does it take your entire blog or do you have to manually move everything?
ReplyDeleteAs for comments, I still get comments. If you put a checkmark in the "notify me" box, you are alerted in e-mail.
If anyone can give some info about moving to WordPress, that would be great. THANKS.
ENJOY your reading week, Kathryn.
Your books sound good. Good luck with the move.
ReplyDeleteI'm on Wordpress and really enjoy it; I'm sure you will too! Good luck with the move - can't wait to see the results :)
ReplyDelete- Megan @ The Hungry Bookworm
Good luck with the transfer! I moved from blogger about 5 years ago. It was a nightmare for me since I'm not tech savvy and seemed to mess everything up every time I touched my website. LoL Once I got everything settled it was pretty smooth sailing with a few hiccups along the way. Mainly just my media folder acting up and not allowing me to upload new images.
ReplyDeleteKristin do you self host or free WP?
DeleteI would love to move, but wp was so haaard :/
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your move!
ReplyDeleteI am still on blogger and am staying moving would take more tech ability and patience then I have. Good Luck Kathryn.
ReplyDeleteI like WP. Yeah you're more limited in terms of styling your blog but you OWN your content. Pls let us know when the time comes what your new URL will be. I may have you in my reader already but I can't remember. I have Homicide in Hardcover on hold. I'm #1.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move! I’ve had Wordpress blogs and Blogger blogs, and it does seem like you can do a lot more with Wordpress. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Just the thought of moving my blog over makes me freeze with dread. Good luck with the remainder of the transfer!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the Kate Carlisle series yet, but I will. Eventually. =)
Kathryn and for those that have or moving to Wordpress did you DIY the move?
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at Nosegraze's $20/month but I don't know if it's worth it but it's all inclusive except design. What are your thoughts?
Kathryn for commenting I use Disqus and love it, all in the one spot.
I am moving to WordPress.com which is not the paid version and am doing it myself. I know Nosegraze is very competent and is very book oriented. For me though that's too much money as US dollars are more expensive for me. She does have templates you can buy at a reasonable price that you can then work on the design yourself. For me I am happy with the free one. Yes have seen that Disqus is an option. Beth has sent me the fix for Blogger commenting so I am back to getting emails which is good.
DeleteI'm impressed with your bravery switching blog platforms...though it sounds like you have plenty of prior experience with WordPress. Yes, Blogger is driving me crazy lately - the e-mail notifications disappeared (just poof! without notice) and I've also noticed the "search" function is suddenly limited to just recent years. I've had my blog for 12+ years and I depend on the search function on the Posts page (the one for us not for our readers) to find old posts, especially when I'm writing book columns - like if I look up Kingsolver, only recent reviews or mentions will pop up, even though I KNOW I reviewed other of her books longer back. Very frustrating.
ReplyDeleteOh!! I just noticed your comment above, where you said Blogger sent you the fix for the commenting notifications! How do I get that?
Thanks for hosting (I'm a bit late this week) and enjoy your week -
Sue
2018 Big Book Summer Challenge
I'll be really curious to see how the move to WordPress goes. I've been really unhappy with the Blogger email changes as well and have been contemplating the move but it seems like such a big step that I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by just the thought! Yay for Kate Carlisle! I enjoy that series a lot though it does get a little less mystery focused in later books. That never bothers me but I know it does some people. Hope you're having a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI love many blogspot bloggers but it IS SUCH A STRUGGLE to comment on them. Sometimes I have to submit comes 8-10 times to get them to "take" so I dread going to blogger's sites who I enjoy. It really is a good move!
ReplyDeleteI have a new book meme directory! I was going to add your It's Monday, What are you Reading, just want to make sure its okay with you! And hopefully I'll catch your new link when you move!
