It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Firstly thank you to Beth from Beth Fish Reads who told me how to correct the Blogger fault of notices of comments on my blog not coming to my email. Thanks to her they now are!

I am still moving to WordPress and an update on that next week.

This week sees the end of July. I know! But... August is my birthday month and I have carefully orchestrated it to not have one review book to read! ( I still have reviews to post though). One of the birthday gifts to me is NO review reading in August. I am going to read only my books or books I get from the library. Big smile!

To celebrate as well I will be having a giveaway on each of the Mondays  in August on It's Monday! What Are You Reading? Those who link to those posts will qualify to be part of it. Nothing else needed.

Now unfortunately I won't be around for a couple of days because I am travelling again to Rotorua because the lawyer wants myself and my sister to sign some documents! Re my sister's estate that we are  executers for.  So sigh! Hours of driving with some twisty roads. The weather looks okay at this point. I'd like to see some snow on the mountains as we pass by!

I drive to Whanganui by myself, its good road and quite flat.  I meet up with my sister and then we go on to Rotorua which will take about three to four hours. The section from her place to the top of Lake Taupo is quite twisty and hilly and that's where we pass the mountains. (A ski area).  It is all volcanic - Taupo is a large crater lake, that erupted about 26 500 years ago and is about the size of Singapore. We go around that and then once on the bypass we are good travelling to Rotorua, a big thermal area, has its own lakes and steam and thermal mud pool areas.  But we aren't tourists and we sleep the night sign documents and travel in reverse all the way home on Monday!

What I read last week:

  3. First off, Happy Early Birthday!

It seems strange that you have to travel so far just to sign some papers! I'd think that you'd be able to do it electronically or even by mail...but then again the law has never been known to be convenient!

  4. Safe travels! Taupo and Rotorua both sound really interesting, even if you're not going to sightsee. :) Sounds like a beautiful area. And enjoy your birthday month!

    Homicide in Hardcover looks fun!

  5. I hope the weather holds for you on your drive. We had some very wet, muddy, horrible driving getting into the mountains on our trip. August is also my birthday month. Happy early birthday.

  11. I like how you planned out a break for August. That's a pleasant change, I bet.

Be careful on your trip and enjoy the beauty all around you. My friend and her family paid tens of thousands of dollars to see what you will see in the next few days.

  12. I love your rule of no review books during the month of your birthday! I think I'm going to have to treat myself to that this year and just use that month to read what I want!

I hope you have good weather for your road trip. Be safe!

Homicide in Hardcover looks like a cozy that I'd enjoy. Too bad my library doesn't have that series!

    1. Kathryn, I just realized that I am not receiving the email notifications on Blogger either! I thought I just wasn't having any visitors, LOL!! Would you mind sending me the fix for that? thanks

  13. What a great idea to keep your birthday month free of review reading. I may need to try that sometime. Enjoy your trip with your sister and safe travels!

  14. I usually take December off from reading review copies. It's nice to take a little break.

  15. Great idea for a birthday month free of reviews. I'm going to keep that in mind when my birthday month comes in November.

Homicide in Hardcover has been in my TBR for awhile. It really looks like a great series.

    Have a safe trip!

  16. I love that idea - gifting yourself with a no-review-reading birthday month! Awesome. I have sooo many books on my shelves that I am dying to read but review books and book club books often take up my reading time. Sounds like the perfect birthday gift to yourself!

Thanks for the map and description of your trip - I just gave myself an excellent geography lesson. Embarrassing to admit I had no idea what New Zealand looked like!

Enjoy your trip - bring audio books!

    Thanks for hosting -

  21. I love your birthday gift to yourself. :) Maybe I should do that for my birthday month in November. I am grateful for the books I get to review, but it is nice to take a break from them as well from time to time.

  22. Have a safe trip! It sounds like a lot of driving. At least you’ll be going past some interesting stuff.

  24. I'm so curious about Sold on a Monday! Safe travels and hopefully you'll have a nice time with your sister despite it not being a vacation. I love your idea for a no review book birthday month! I might have to copy that next year. Have a great week!

  25. I hope your travels are safe. I've had the same trouble with blogger too. They don't show up in my Comment/Awaiting Moderation queue either until I hit the refresh button. A bit annoying. Plus I have been getting as many anonymous comments as real. Now that is really annoying.
Great idea for you birthday month... not sure I could do it. I always feel compelled to write a review for each book I read, even my TBRs. I think I have gotten better doing some on Goodreads and a little shorter.
Kate Carlisle is an author I have been meaning to read.
I will be curious how you like Sold on a Monday.
    Safe travels and Happy Reading.
