Challenge Guidelines:
- Challenge will run from Jan 1st to December 31st 2014
- Write and publish a post stating your intention to participate. In the post please include the Challenge graphic and a link back to this post. Then link your intention post at the bottom of this post. Make sure it is the actual post and not just a generic link to your blog.
- Entries will be accepted up until the end of November 2014.
- Add your reviews here. At the end of every two months there will be a U.S. $10 prize with a book of your choice from the Book Depository or Amazon voucher, (International) for the entries. There will be a new list then for every two months until the end of November.
- Extra! Since the beginning of March - link ups will be by the month and a prize of U.S. $10 as explained above will be awarded.
- Link your reviews for November/December
- Each review can only be linked up once in the year.
- Books may cross over from other challenges that you are doing.
- On the 22nd of November a post will go up to link a summary post for the challenge for those who have completed a full house. This will close on the 31st of December and a winner will be chosen using random.org for a U.S. $50 prize which again can be used at the Book Depository or go as an Amazon voucher.
Link Full House post here
- If someone completes a full house and would like to complete another, that is fine too, and would mean two entries at the end of the year. Or as many entries as you can achieve - for the more competitive amongst us! Link ups for this will be open on 22nd of November until 31st of December.
The Challenge:
- Complete the card below. You can do it in any order you wish. You are allowed "one free exchange", if there is something on the square you really dislike you may change it to something of your choice. Once you have played this free card that is it. Mention the exchange in the final summary post.

I look forward to this challenge.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading along with you in the challenge.
DeleteI've cut right back on challenges but I'm seriously considering this one, sounds like a lot of fun!! I'll be back lol
ReplyDeleteSo hope you do. I know everyone is busy, and we start off with good intentions. I am going to get involved in more in 2014! However some will cross over, so won't be that big.
DeleteThis sounds fun, but I won't be able to participate.
ReplyDeleteI am organized, but just can't add another thing to my plate.
Have fun, everyone.
I will stop by to check out everyone's progress if that is possible.
ENJOY!!

Thanks for popping over Elizabeth. I know that you have a lot to do and cover and not everyone enjoys challenges either. Call in when you can!
DeleteTHANKS, Kathryn.
DeleteCan a book counts for more than a category?
ReplyDeleteFor example: a book published in 2013, historical and won? :)
Thank you!

Valentina
DeleteOne book per category, no crossover within the challenge - so 25 books in all. However books can crossover from other challenges ( which I myself intend doing where relevant!)
Thank you for hosting! This looks fun!
ReplyDeleteBeen signing for challenges. BEcoming addicted. Going to try this one too.
ReplyDeleteJamie
Same here. I have one more to see to and then I think I had better stop!
DeleteThanks. Also, I have some questions about some of the categories. What is an example of Contemporary? And for the free space, do we have to choose a category already listed or can we choose one not listed?
ReplyDeleteJamie
DeleteI would see contemporary as set in our time, as opposed to historical or say science fiction. Is that enough of an answer? If it isn't let me know.
The free square can be any read of your choice. Total freebie!
Sorry missed this question and only just seen it.
I was trying very hard to limit my participation in challenges because I always fails at them during the year but this is so creative and I love the idea. Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteIsla may 2014 be the year of participation and achievement!
DeleteHi there, I'm in! Thanks for hosting! :)

Have you added this challenge to the challenge directory on book blogging? because that would be great!
ReplyDeleteI have added it to the Novel Challenge blog but am not sure about the challenge directory on book blogging. I will put it into a google search and see what I come up with. Thanks.
DeleteCan you explain the "Best read so far in 2014"?
ReplyDeleteI see this one as at some point in time in the year, labelling one of your reads " This is the best book so far that I have read in 2014!". You may read something later in the year that is better, but that doesn't matter. It is a judgement made in a point of time you chose. For me it would be something I give 5 stars to, or a book that I feel excited by for whatever reason. Hope that helps.
DeleteYes, thanks.
DeleteDo YA books count for the challenge?
ReplyDeleteYes, absolutely. Sorry didn't notice the question until now.
DeleteLuv how this challenge is working into my schedule - thanks for organizing and hosting Kathryn - I've
ReplyDeleteposted and now adding my link..
OK, I'm in! This sounds like too much fun not to take part! Here's my sign up post!

Hi Kathryn,
ReplyDeleteI recently stumbled upon this challenge, and I'm so excited. I do have a couple questions before signing up, so please excuse my Type A personality. :)
Does a library book count for “won or borrowed”?
Would a mystery count as “crime or suspense”?
Do children’s books count?
Thanks!
Carrie
DeleteHello and welcome. Yes I think you could count a library book as borrowed! I also think mystery is okay for suspense - after all a mystery is going to hopefully hold the reader in suspense!
I think this is a challenge everyone can do with whatever books they read - be it adult, new adult, ya, children's books etc. So go for it!
Is two cards the limit we can fill? Not sure if I could even do more, but I'm an overachiever sometimes and I need to know when to stop myself. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you can do it more than 2x over no worries. More entries at the end of the year for the final prize. I'll actually edit the post soon to make it clearer that you can do more than 2 if you like! Good question, thanks for it.
DeleteI wish I've come across this challenge sooner, I probably would've had it filled at least 90% with the books I've read so far this year. I still might join, I'll have to think about it, but it looks like so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteWe aren't even halfway through the year yet! You can always back date, so long as they are read in 2014.
DeleteOk, I'm done! Here is my wrap-up post.
ReplyDeletehttp://jannghi.blogspot.com/2013/12/full-house-reading-challenge.html
Well done Jamie, just noticed this comment now. Watch out for the link up for Full House on 22nd November onwards.
DeleteHi, thanks for the comment on my blog. I've already linked my post for this challenge. If you go to novelchallenges.blogspot.com, you can find challenges for 2015. No new ones up since last Saturday, but the Foodies one is up at their site: http://foodiesread2015.blogspot.com/
DeleteHi, I read a book with a pug in it, would that could as "a book with an animal in it?" or does the animal have to be a main character? Just curious :)
ReplyDeleteClaudia
DeleteThe pug counts - especially if it was cute! No doesn't have to be a main character.
Ha ha ha! Thanks! I'm almost done then! One more to go; woo hoo! :D
Deleteso far, I only have jan-mar link signups for my entries..
ReplyDeletewanting to add my xtras, but not wanting to duplicate..
suggestions? thanks!!
Have emailed you. Can see I need to keep a list of link ups in 2015 to help people taking part in the challenge to know what they have linked.
DeleteI got really behind on my reviews this year, but I definitely read books in each category. Do you have to have reviewed them to count or does reading without a review count?
ReplyDeleteTanya
DeleteI didn't make any rules around that, so... If you have a list of the books and what category they fit that's fine.
I really can't keep up with these challenges, they make me feel pressured and that inhibits my appetite for reading... x_x
