For many years Sheila at Book Journey has hosted It's Monday! What Are You Reading? meme. At this point in time she believes it is time to pass it on. She has honoured me by asking me to carry it on and be the host. I hope I can do it justice and give it the enthusiasm that Sheila brought to it. Thank you Sheila for being an amazing host all these years.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone.
I had a good week and even got some viewing in - which is a bit surprising because I don't view a lot! So this week was super-filled!
I went to see the movie The Martian and really enjoyed it, came up to my expectations even though I thought it wouldn't. I even then went to You Tube and listened to Andy Weir talk for about an hour! Author of 'The Martian' thrills Lab employees.
I also enjoyed the first episode of Season Six of Downton Abbey and it was a lot of fun viewing.
I also watched four of almost six hours of Romance Fiction in a Digital Age on the Library of Congress website. Thanks to Steph from Fangs, Wands & Fairy Dust for alerting me to this.
Fitreader's Check in.
Jen at That's What I'm Talking About is hosting it this month. Thanks Jen, you're keeping us motivated.
I achieved my goal for the week. Often didn't feel like going out as it has been very windy but took a deep breath and thought how healthy it is thought of fitbit stats and went!
What I read last week:
Every Crooked Nanny is really Mary Kay Andrews writing as Kathy Hogan Trocheck. 4 stars.
Cleopatra's Shadows historical fiction novel about two sisters to Cleopatra. Review later. 4 stars
Catching Fireflies. Sherryl Woods 4.5 stars because her exploration of bullying was well done.
What I am reading at present:
Still listening to:
Reading:
Up next:
Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple
Smoke by Catherine McKenzie
Posts from the last week:
- Hot Toy Jennifer Crusie
- All I Want Jill Shalvis
- After You Jojo Moyes
- Accepting the Baton from Sheila at Book Journey
Woohoo first cab off the rank :)
ReplyDeleteAudio of The Martian was bloody brilliant!! I hope I'm not disappointed seeing the movie so close to finishing the book. I'm loving this season of Downton Abbey too.
Way to go on the walking, you made me laugh, that's often how I feel but fitbit and fitreaders gets me out the door, besides it takes my mind off my hands.
Where'd You Go Bernadette is on my toppling TBR mountain, I'm going to wait for your thoughts before pushing it up the list, you know, time poor and all that lol. Have a great week, happy reading and enjoy your new hosting ... you'll rock it Kathryn!
Thanks Sheree. I loved Mrs Hughes and Carter - so funny. Romance!! Hope you love the movie of The Martian too. Where'd You Go Bernadette is a book for The Eclectic Reading Challenge other wise it would have remained on my to read list forever!
DeleteI need some of your motivation to get up and out to get the step count up! I think I have Every Crooked Nanny on audio! I need to check that out since you enjoyed it so much. I am jealous that you are watching Downton Abby! Can't wait for season six! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou'll love season six - the first episode anyway. Every Crooked Nanny was good even though it's an older book of hers.
DeleteI am glad you liked The Martian. I've heard it's really good. I plan to watch it on DVD.
ReplyDeleteCleopatra's Shadow sounds really interesting. I look forward to your review of it.
Cleopatra's Shadow was a stretch for me as I am not into history but it managed to engage me and make me curious!
DeleteIt looks like you had a good reading week and watching tv shows as well. Emily March book looks like a cool book, look forward to seeing what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteI love Emily March and her Eternity Springs series - fabulous.
DeleteSounds like a really great week! Totally snorting at your little strike through ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah - I'm all about what it looks like!!
DeleteI would love to read Every Crooked Nanny.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new week, and how much fun you will have now as our Monday leader! Thanks for sharing your reading week.
Thanks Laurel-Rain. Every Crooked Nanny was the beginning of a series of a PI, I am not sure I'll read the rest mainly because have so many books to read, but if I had time I would!
DeleteHappy Monday! I want to see The Martian, I was going to pass or wait but I've heard so many good things I think I want to see it!
ReplyDeleteThe Emily March just looks like Christmas!
Have a fabulous week!
Yes just go see The Martian!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for keeping this meme going. Monday reading has always been an important part of my week. Great to know how The Martian (movie) lived up to its hype - am looking forward to reading the novel, then watching the movie soon. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Martian did live up to the hype! Hope you enjoy both.
DeleteLOL, well when mine was working all I thought about was stats
ReplyDeleteHaha. Indeed yes!
DeleteI enjoyed The Martian as well. Matt Damon was just wonderful - perfect for the that role and the movie was far funnier than I expected.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations and welcome to your first week hosting IMWAYR!
Thanks Deb. Yes there is very good humour. Want to see it again!
DeleteCongrats to your hosting this very special meme... ;) Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenai.
DeleteBest wished to you with this meme! I haven't continued with participating with FitReaders, but your post are motivating! Glad you had a good week. I enjoyed Where'd You Go Bernadette. I will look forward to reading your thoughts on it. Have a great week Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteHeard good things about Where'd You Go Bernadette and one of my challenges has got me into making time for it. Since you liked it I most likely will too Pat.
DeleteThank you so much for keeping this meme going! You will do great!
ReplyDeleteThe Martian is on my list of movies to see. I always enjoy Mary Kay Andrews and Sherryl Woods' books but I haven't read any in awhile. I need to make time and read a couple.
Have a great week!
Yvonne so hard to make time to read all the great authors around. The MKA book was on my TBR shelf for awhile and it was a goal to read the Sweet Magnolia series by SW this year!
DeleteHi Kathryn, Thanks so much for keeping this meme going. I 'll put my update here today, but next week I'll be sure to add your link and graphic to my post. I love Downton Abbey :)
ReplyDeleteDownton has been a very enjoyable series, pity its ending but I guess they are running out of time with families like that no longer being able to keep their mansions going.
DeleteHappy Monday, Kathryn. As many have said, thank you for keeping the meme going and accepting the baton. With my current blog I'm very new to the meme, but I previously had another book blog some time ago and have always enjoyed 'It's Monday!'.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of good things about Mary Kay Andrews writing, I shall have to check that out some time. The same goes for an upcoming read of yours, Where'd You Go Bernadette.
Happy Reading!
Thanks Jade. Looking forward to meeting up on the meme. I have read or am going to read these authors because of all those readers out there singing praises about them.
DeleteThanks for keeping this meme going - I'm still quite new to it, but find it so interesting to see what others are reading! I'll be watching for your review of Cleopatra's Shadows. It looks like one I might enjoy.
ReplyDeleteKym its such a good place to find out about some very good reads. If you are a historical fiction reader with Ancient Egypt as an interest this book would suit very well.
DeleteI have to see the Martian - I LOVED it on audio! Have a super week!
ReplyDeleteLoved the audio too Sheila. As in LOVED! I think you'll love the movie too.
DeleteBusy week for you. I don't know Martian.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific week this week, and thanks for keeping this meme going.

Silver's Reviews
My It's Monday, What Are You Reading
Thanks Elizabeth. The Martian is a fantasy sci fi and fabulous. I don't usually read anything like that but a challenge needed to be fulfilled and it was a real blessing.
DeleteWe just saw The Martian yesterday, very good movie! Thanks for taking over this meme, I look forward to seeing what everyone is reading. I love your choice of books.
ReplyDeleteOh good Susan, so happy to hear you loved The Martian too. Looking forward to hearing about all your reads.
DeleteI am so glad you agreed to hosting IMWAYR. It will be fun to see all the regulars and maybe meet some new friends. Thanks for the recommendation for The Martian. I hope to be able to see it, but my DH and I have been sick the last weeks, so we have not been out. Enjoy your upcoming reads.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've been sick but The Martian will be there for a while I suspect. Do go it was great.
DeleteI'm so excited you're hosting this meme!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fun week! And did great with your steps, too! Well done!
I can't wait to see your thoughts on Heart Song Cottage. I was approved for it, yay! Although, I'm weird about reading books like this when it's not the same season (I know, I'm ridiculous!). We did get some snow flurries this weekend already, so may feel like reading it sooner than I planned, lol!
I also was approved for Smoke - sounds really good!
Happy Monday!!
Heartsong Cottage is not really a Christmas read so don't worry too much. More the pre season and not really mentioned so far and I'm about 60% in. Smoke does seem good and a new to me author as well.
DeleteLucky you - I am DYING to see The Martian! Just finished the book and loved it.
ReplyDeleteI also loved Where'd You Go, Bernadette? - hilarious!! Esepcailly if you've had kids in school in the past couple of decades. Hope you like it.
Enjoy your books this week - and thanks for hosting IMWAYR!
Sue
Book By Book
Ha Sue no children at school but I have just finished teaching career so perhaps I'll identify. So happy to hear you loved it. The Martian such a good book and movie.
DeleteSo glad you're keeping this meme going!!! You did a great job with your steps this week - and I am the same as you - those fitbit stats often motivate me to get moving, too :) I am looking forward to this last season of Downton Abbey, but we have to wait until January over here in the states. Have a great week!!!
ReplyDeleteThe stats really do motivate me on my Fitbit so whatever works!! January is a while away for Downton but will be in your winter so a good time to watch such a series.
DeleteHappy Monday ugh :) I'm knee deep in my contracted reviews. I LOVED The Martian, novel. We read it in my Goodreads club and Andy would have joined us but he was on deadline for book two. How exciting. He was so down to earth I'm so glad he's a big deal now. Can't wait to see it on the big screen! Heartsong Cottage is on my list too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Can't wait for you to see the movie of The Martian to see what you think. I think you'd enjoy watching the You Tube video of him speaking, he is an excellent speaker and witty as well. I'm loving Heartsong Cottage.
DeleteCatching Fireflies looks so good, glad to hear you enjoyed it. Looking forward to a review on it.
ReplyDeleteHeartsong Cottage, hope I can read it soon.
Lily I am not reviewing Catching Fireflies just a quick few lines on Goodreads as its an older book but very good. Have you read the other Eternity Springs books, I love it.
DeleteThanks for taking over this meme. I really missed the connections when it was gone. I love J. D. Robb's In Death series. I hope you are enjoying the audiobook.
ReplyDeleteYes, we all got a bit lost there for a while. Love J D Robb series, audio is so.... good. I know this is fav series of yours too.
DeleteThank you for for hosting now, I really love this meme. You have some really good books that you are reading this week, cannot wait to hear what you think of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole. This meme is beloved my many and its being going such a long time.
DeleteI haven't heard of the Cleopatra book...I'll have to check that out. And thank you for hosting this meme!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melinda. I think the Cleopatra book has not been long published.
DeleteCongrats again on your privilege of taking over for the hard-working Sheila! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI am interested in the Sherryl Woods book and of course Jill Shalvis, whom I keep saying I'm going to read and haven't gotten to yet. Now I'm curious about the Romance Fiction link you posted and what that's about to keep you captivated for so long :)
I want to read The Martian and see the film, not sure which will happen first! Did you also read the book? Thanks for a great post.
Yes just thinking the bullying issue would strike a chord with you as I seem to remember a discussion on your blog awhile back. Yes I also read The Martian - the audio actually which was fab. Movie fab too!
DeleteHeartsong Cottage and Every Crooked Nanny both look really good. I love Jennifer Crusie!
ReplyDeleteAnd how awesome that you are now doing It's Monday! What Are You Reading? meme!
Thanks Erin. Yes I adore Jennifer Crusie too and that's why I jumped on this one even though it was only a novella and published before but I hadn't read it.
DeleteWhere'd You Go Bernadette is great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the reigns for It's Monday!
The cover for Heartsong Cottage is beautiful! Cleopatra's Shadows sounds really intriguing. Thanks for sharing - and for taking over the meme. :)
ReplyDeleteBrooke at Brooke Blogs
I need to go see The Martian still. That's funny, I watched some interviews and stuff of Andy after reading it. He's pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteFinally got the chance to come back and comment. Hello! Congrats on being chosen to host this meme. I also congratulate you for achieving your fitness goal for the week. YAY! I haven't read any historical romance yet but heard it's a great genre. Cleopatra's Shadow sounds interesting. Maybe I'll pick it up some time. ;)
