It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Welcome in to the middle of January. My garden is starting to produce and I am picking beans and zucchini and digging potatoes. My first tomato was picked through by a bird, so now am watching and picking early!

Another week where I met my goal of 55 000 steps and made sure I wore my fitbit.

What I read last week:

Looks a little like dark/sweet/dark/sweet/dark!

Missing Pieces - Review to be posted.
And I Love Her - Enjoyed, part of her Green Mountain series. Tad hot for me.
Salvation in Death - Another excellent book in series, starting off with the death of a 'priest' at Mass. Liked Eve's theology! No review for either this one or one above. Both off my TBR shelf.
New Leaf - Review to be posted.
Magic Bites - Not too sure about this one, audio version was good but too much blood and guts! Liked Magic Burns more.

  1. Oh, I miss fresh from the garden produce. Enjoy! I am looking forward to New Leaf and Missing Pieces. Not all of the Magic books are as bloody! Congrats on meeting your fitness goal!

  2. Great job with your steps this week! Glad your garden is doing well. I'd love some zucchini! My parents always grow a lot from their garden.

Hope you have a great week!

  3. I've enjoyed several books by Susan Lewis....I really loved No Child of Mine, and could relate to the social worker character.

Thanks for sharing your books...and enjoy your week!

  4. It is always exciting to collect your own vegetables. Your fitness achievements give me inspiration. It would help if I could get my FitBit to sync. :-(
You have a good selection of reading. Enjoy!

  5. I LOVE Magic Bites! Good job on the steps!

  6. Go you ... rocking the step goal!! I'm totally with you not liking to exercise in the heat; blah. I whinge every year, probably should invest in a treadmill.
haha I like your dark/sweet line up from last week, I don't mind blood and guts, that Ilona Andrew's series is on my groaning TBR pile. And I'm sure I'd like No Child of Mine but I'll wait for your thoughts.

How exciting you're harvesting your veges ... YUM! We are still getting a few tomatoes and zucchini and capsicum but it's almost time to replant.

    Her is my Monday read

  8. I love tomatoes out of the garden! I think Missing Piece sounds good and I'd like to find a UF serie I like but excessive gore might be a deal breaker for me. If it's well written I might be able to get past it.

  9. Congratulations on your steps! I'm sure all that gardening is helping to keep you active! Enjoy your week!

  10. I'm curious about The Expatriates. I enjoyed your review of The Things We Keep. Have a great reading week!

  11. Great job with the fitbit! The Expatriates looks interesting.

  12. I've got The Expatriates to read but don't think I requested it. Not sure it's my sort of book, so keen to hear what you think?!

You're certainly getting through the JD Robb's. I think there's a new one coming soon as I can remember putting in a request sometimes recently!

  13. It sounds like your garden is doing well. I hope those pesky birds stay away.

    Have a wonderful week.

  14. You did some good reading this week. I look forward to seeing what you think of Catherine Anderson book. I didn't like her last book, but I want to try her again as I have like previous books by her.

  15. I envy your success in the garden! There's nothing like fresh tomatoes from the vine. Even the birds think they're great. An excellent reading week for you too.

  16. Good luck with your garden Kathryn. Enjoy your new books and have a great week.

  17. This is my first week joining the link up, thanks for hosting it!

  18. Yay for meeting your step goal! Did you like Missing Pieces?? Can't wait to see your review! I didn't realize it comes out soon. I have it from Netgalley and hadn't gotten to it, yet. I should probably do that!

  19. Nora Roberts! It's been so long since I've read one of her novels. I hope I can start reading a few of her latest books. :)

  20. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Missing Pieces. If I'm right in thinking, that's the newest of Heather Gudenkauf's novels? I got into her writing last year but the books I read, and those still unread on my shelves, are slightly older books so it'll be good to delve in to some of her more recent work too.

Your garden sounds like it's thriving!

  21. I can't wait to start gardening! My seed catalogs came a week or so ago, and I was making my giant wish list that I will need to pare down, but for now, amidst the white and snow, I am making a huge wish list of color. :) I am not sure which veggies I am going to do this year, but I have the flowers all picked out.

  22. Great job with your steps, Kathryn; that's great! I sit at a desk a lot, at work, so on the days that I don't run it's tough for me to get in all of my steps; wearing a fitness tracker has definitely helped make me more aware of it, though. The Expatriates sounds like it's going to be a good one; hope you enjoy it!

  23. ENJOY your garden veggies. I love my veggie garden.

I added a book to my Women's Fiction Challenge. :)

Great on meeting your step goal.

I didn't know Karen White had another book....I need to check it out.

Have a wonderful reading week, Kathryn.

  24. Oh, I can't wait to see your thoughts on The Expatriate! That one is so anticipated and on my wish list. I have high expectations for it. :)

  25. Your post reminded me to make a list for JD Robb books when I go to the library. I have only read the first 2, so I am far behind. But because I am doing the TBR Triple Dog Dare, it won't be til the 1st of April. No garden for me this year, though I hope to improve my strawberry bed and get some perennial shrubs planted. Have a great reading week.

  26. I really need to get caught up on the JD Robb series! I love those books. And I am interested to see what you have to say about Missing Pieces, it's on my TBR list.

  27. Congrats on getting your steps in! I'm trying to make a habit of riding our stationary bike three times a week. It's a good way for me to get some exercise and sneak in some extra reading time!

Have a great week and thanks for hosting us!

  28. Oh those pesky birds! They usually get the first (and then more than their fair share) of our berries each summer. My husband has tried to rig up netting over our bushes, but then the kids pull them off so that THEY can get to the berries.

I, on the other hand, end up having to buy my berries from the store!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have The Ex-Patriots here too. I really should get to it!

  30. Great post Kathryn, I'm only dreaming of my first homegrown tomato. Right now its 4º that's minus 115 Celsius ;)
Happy Monday I'm knee deep into my April reviews!

  31. I've tried reading the In Death series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) and didn't like them as well as Nora's other books. I'm not sure what it is about them. We had our first dusting of snow here last night. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, I'm so jealous of your garden. That is one of my dreams to grow food for us to eat here since it's warmer during the usual months here.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Looks like you had another good reading week! I like the alternating dark & sweet - very funny! Guess you had some mixed moods this week!

Sounds so funny that your garden is producing veggies - we got our first snow yesterday.

Enjoy your books this week -

  35. Love Fitbit! I am looking forward to The Expatriates. I've heard goo things!

  36. Your garden produce sounds delicious...it really does taste completely different than veggies from a store. And - I've got The Expatriates on my list...will be interested to hear your thoughts.

  37. Fresh tomatoes! Yum! Can't wait to get my plants in the ground but I've got a few months before that happens. I really want to try JD Robb and the Marie Force and Catherine Anderson books look fantastic. Enjoy your reads this week!

  38. Sounds yummy! I think I need tomatoes, now.

I wanted to read the Expatriates, it was added to my wishlist last week. Please let us know how it turns out.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Missing Pieces will probably be my next read, definitely will try to get to before release date. Expatriates looks good, I recently added to my TBR list, would love to read a review on it.

  40. I read Missing Pieces last weekend! What did you think? Have you read any Gudenkauf's other books?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Enjoy those yummy fresh veggies! I was thinking today about what I should plant in my garden come May.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am planning lots of romance in February! But today I'm listening to Shadow and Bone, reading Bleeding Violets on ebook, and just finished The Doll and the Lost Short Stories by Daphne du Maurier and then got hooked on the first half of Marie Antionette, Serial Killer.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I like to mix my genres similar to your dark/sweet/dark. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm anxious to read Missing Pieces too since Heather is an Iowan. I've loved her other books.
