It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 19th September

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Well another week of reading and my last week was a good one and I am anticipating another one! I have been busy sewing too, I decided about a week ago to make a quilt for one of my sisters who is having a birthday next Monday, so scrambling a bit to get it done, even though it is only a small lap quilt. I had a knitting night out with friends as well, we are knitting another nativity set to raffle at a fund raising event at the school we used to teach at. I only opted to knit the sheep though this time!

I can hardly believe it but we go into daylight saving next weekend here in NZ. So lighter evenings coming up as Spring gets underway. We've had heaps of rain so in a way I guess that's good!  Made me lazy though about getting out for walks.

As I made room in my reading schedule this week for a book I'd bought recently I was enlightened by an author I like to follow ( Barbara Claypole White) on Facebook. She commented that she was delighted to be able to pick up a book of her own choice as she was all up to date with reading books that she was reading to write and author recommendation for. In my innocence I never thought of authors being tied by review books as we book bloggers often find ourselves.

What I read last week:

What I am reading at present:

From my recently bought list I have managed to fit in Susan Elizabeth Phillips latest. Always an auto buy for me.

  3. Emily March book looks good. Is it part of a series? I have wanted to start quilt one day. I did one many years ago and would like to do another one again.

Looks like some good books this week.

    1. Yes it is part of series Viki but could be read alone easily. Go for it and make another quilt. The girls would love them.

  4. Yay for good reading weeks! After a few weeks of okay but not spectacular reading, I got through a lot last week. And that's interesting about your author follow- I imagine they do get bombarded with blurb and various other requests.

I like the cover of Christmas in Eternity Springs and The Art of Keeping Secrets.

  5. I'm glad you've had a good reading and I hope you get another one. Do quilts take long to make? I thought they took more than a few weeks? (Or are you being very ambitious?)

PS. I'm kinda in denial that we're soon heading into summer!

    1. This is a quick one with large blocks Deborah, but have to say my shoulders are aching from too much sewing!

  7. These look like great selections, Kathyrn! Also, I am also surprised about the difference in our seasons; our daylight savings time is wrapping up and fall will begin later this week (well, the "offical" start of fall - it's still quite warm here). I hope you have a great week!

  8. Susan Elizabeth Phillips used to be an auto-buy for me too. Then I went off romances, but I think I'm about ready to start reading them again.

  10. I'm not sure I can be thinking about Christmas books yet. I need to at least get Halloween out of the way first. So jealous your nights will be getting lighter as ours get darker. I wish I could afford to live in different parts of the world so it was always Spring or Summer.

  11. I'm glad you had a good reading week, those are the best! Sounds like you had a very crafty week too :) enjoy your reads - I've never read Susan Elizabeth Philips, but I'm aware of her. Maybe I need to find a way to squeeze her in if she's an auto buy! Happy reading :)

  15. It's great that you mention authors also get tied up with reviews. I love reading and the idea is for it to stay fun. I'm new at Netgalley etc, so I still try to get used to doing the "must read" thing. The most I had in the past was read a book that a friend asked me to read. Hope you will have a good week and send those rain clouds to us here in SA!

  16. Your crafting sounds wonderful. I broke out the sewing machine this past weekend, but it was just to do some mending. It felt nice, though, even if it was mundane. I hope you post pics of your sheep. I've been knitting a huge Harry Potter scarf for my son. I'm *almost* finished...

  17. I see that you have a Christmas book on your post today. I love it when they filter into my reading list. I love Deanna's books and I'm happy that you enjoyed her newest title. Have a great week and happy reading!

  18. Sounds like you have been busy. I wish I knew how to knit, I can crochet though.

  19. Sounds like you had a great week! I am so impressed by your sewing and knitting skills. Anything that needs repair here has to go to the tailor!

I hadn't thought about authors having lots of reading obligations either, but I guess that makes sense.

    Enjoy your books this week!

  20. Fun week for you, and more to come! I like most holiday stories, so I'll be on the lookout for that one. I wish I had your crafting skills but all attempts to crochet have failed for me. And I never had nor will I probably afford to get a sewing machine to quilt, etc.

I love the cover of First Star without knowing anything about it, and I do have that Robyn Carr on my radar. Enjoy, Kathryn, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  21. I'm kind of in the "I want to read them all" mode right now so I'm bouncing between several books. It looks like you are going to be busy.

  22. What a thoughtful sister you are to yours and I like how she'll appreciate it. Do show pics of your group nativity in progress. Are you using a certain pattern then that covers everything? Susan B. Anderson has some cute sheep patterns.

  23. I didn't realize you knit -- so do I! I bet the knitted nativity set will be adorable. Speaking of which, your Christmas book from last week looks like a fun read!

  24. I hadn't thought of authors being tied to review books either. Definitely an interesting perspective. I have the Emily March and the Robyn Carr coming up and I can't wait for to see what you think of The Promise Kitchen! I'm reading The Bookshop on the Corner and am LOVING it! Have a great week!
