It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
I hope you all had a great start to the year. It's been a quiet week for me, trying to get back into the habit of a walk most days, but weather puts me off a bit. It is meant to be summer here but so far not delivering. Although I hate really hot weather so not complaining too much. The garden has started delivering beans, potatoes, carrots, beetroot, parsnips so that part is good.
What I read last week:
Perfect book to start 2017. Excellent. Review to follow.
Great listen. Loved the reread after decades from reading it last.
Review book which was a delightful read.
What I am reading at present:
Listening to...
I am so glad your first book turned out so great. We just finished our last of the green beans today. Need to put up more next year. Have a great week and hope the weather is cooperative for walking.
ReplyDeleteYay for garden! Hope it warms up for you but not too much. :) It can be hard to get out and about when the weather doesn't cooperate.
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself to get outside for a walk everyday, but in the winter it gets dark so early that my willpower is no match for my laziness and love of comfort! 😉
ReplyDeleteYour garden sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI am curious about Pretty Little World. Enjoy your books, and thanks for sharing.
So happy you liked your fist book of the year. Mine ended up being a DNF! I was disappointed. Enjoy your reading week.
ReplyDeleteI think I had a book that straddled the new year but I enjoyed it so guess that was okay. I got the Mansell but hadn't requested it and it really isn't my sort of read so I've shelved it for a bit while I work through my TBR pile!
ReplyDeleteGlad your garden is doing well. I'm sure warmer weather is on the way and hopefully you won't have to wait long. We've had very cold weather the past few days but it's supposed to warm up this week.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked Bridge of Scarlet Leaves. I want to read that one. I liked my first book of the year too.
Have a great week!
What a bountiful garden you have. It sounds wonderful. Do you plant in the ground or use raised beds? It looks like you had some good reading which is great. My post will publish a little after midnight PST.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your garden is thriving at the moment Kathryn, how lovely to have fresh produce on your doorstep.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the heat, I prefer the cooler weather. Perth has had some scorchers in the past week. Today is pretty warm too.
Great to see Anne of Green Gables on yout list this week - such a classic, enjoy!
The new Jill Mansell looks great, love the beach themed cover. It looks like the perfect summer beach read!
Have a lovely week :-)
I'm also trying to get back into the swing of being more active--I had to take a break from the gym over the holidays, thanks to a nasty cold. Good luck...but at least you have summer (supposedly). We're having an ice storm right now!
ReplyDeleteOh so nice to have the garden delivering. Not sure we will have anymore gardens as DH is still too weak and still struggling to recover normal activities.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about exercise but that doesn't seem to work. LOL.
Glad to see you are enjoying your reading. Hope that continues.
Enjoy your weather while the rest of us are bundled. :-)
It sounds like 2017 has been treating you to some lovely reads so far. I look forward to your review of the Jill Mansell book - I've been meaning to read her writing for the longest time.
ReplyDeleteYour garden sounds lovely. Happy reading!
Anne of Green Gables is one of those books I never tire of reading. I'd love to own an audio book of it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the Jill Mansell. I'm looking forward to reading it, the cover is so summery.
ReplyDeleteKathryn, your garden sounds delightful; I'm so jealous! Pretty Little World looks intriguing; I like the cover. What do you think, so far? Hope you have a great week and that the weather begins to swing your way soon! - Tara @ itstaraleigh.com
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to listen to Anne of Green Gables this year. There is supposed to be a new version of it out.
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been quite erratic here...yesterday it froze and tomorrow it will almost be 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hi Kathryn! Well, it's freezing cold here in Kentucky...like we have to leave faucets dripping so the water doesn't freeze in the pipes. I remember Anne of Green Gables from reading the series many (many) years ago and a PBS (?) series as well. Thanks for the book memories and the great suggestions!
ReplyDeleteHere's my It's Monday! What Are You Reading? post.
I'm glad you enjoyed Anne of Green Gables on Audio - I may have to pick it up as a reread of a childhood favorite. I just love the cover of True Highlander - it kind of makes me think of an old painting. I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been nuts - Mother Nature is clearly confused. One morning it was 70 and by the end of the day it was in the teens! And we had snow last week, this week will be in the 70s! I wish it'd stop - on warm, preferably :) Have a great week!
All of your books look good. I've been wanting to try Jill Mansell. I have a couple of hers on my Kindle. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing Pretty Little World a lot lately. I do hope you're enjoying it! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGreat list of books.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear your first book of the year worked out. Mine was quite good too.
Last year's first book didn't work out for me, and I didn't find one until six books had been thrown in the did not finish stack. :)
Pretty Little Things looks good.
Wonderful on your garden. ENJOY!!
Have a marvelous week, Kathryn.

My It's Monday, What Are You Reading
Yay for the first book being a great one! I was lucky enough for that as well which is good since last year's first book was a DNF. Glad you enjoyed the Anne listen. I think audio would be a fantastic route to revisit one of my favorite books. I have Pretty Little Things coming up in a couple of books and I'm looking forward to it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear how much you enjoyed your first book of 2017! I loved mine, too. Oh, yum! Wish I had access to fresh veggies. If you want to see the latest snow drift on my driveway, check out my Sunday Post. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteAw, I loved Anne of Green Gables as a child. I may have to give it a listen.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your first book of the year was a winner, Kathryn. Mine was too! Have a good week. I hope summer shows up for you soon. We're shivering in the winter cold in my area :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good first week of the year - your weather sounds wonderful! I was just trying to psych myself up for a short walk, but it's only 27 (F!) out today - brrr!
ReplyDeleteI bet Anne of Green Gables was wonderful on audio! I just read it for the first time last summer and loved it - now I want to read the other books in the series.
Enjoy your books this week!

Book By Book
Congrats on your garden! I hope to one day live somewhere I can have a garden and eat the fruits of my labor, so to speak. I really want to pick up Scarlet Bridge of Leaves. I've read the author before last year and also the subject matter. What a dark stain on American history that we treated Japanese-Americans that way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Hope you get a good walk in this week :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading this week!
ReplyDeleteYour garden sounds lovely - nothing like home grown veggies!
ReplyDelete:: looks at snow falling outside:: Finished my First Book of 2017, Star-Shot by Mary-Ann Constantine. Not an easy book but worth a look. Now reading Stephanie Queen's Beachcomber Wedding which is as good as the rest of the series. Have a few other's including a french translation to read. Beginning of a year of REST with less stress on myself
ReplyDeleteHi Kathryn, I usually read gritty Crime Fiction novels but occasionally I like to read from a different genre. I am currently reading Invisible by Barbara Copperthwaite which I am enjoying then I will be reading Cathy Bramley's The Plumberry School of Comfort Food.
ReplyDeleteAnne of Green Gables! That is my daughter's most favorite book in the whole world. It is the one that taught her the love of reading after years of me begging her to pick up a book and being denied. I am glad you enjoyed it. I like it a lot myself. I hope the weather warms up for you a bit. Here in Cali, we're at 60 degrees or so. Cool, but not freezing. Thanks, as always, for hosting the meme.
ReplyDelete- Mama Vicky
Oooh! I loved Anne of Green Gables! I might re read that book someday!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my It’s Monday! What are you Reading? Post!

Great that you were able to get out for walks. I don't love it when it's too hot. We just had an unusual southern snow blizzard here. It was nice to stay in and get alot of sorting and cleaning done in the house. Looks like you are starting off the year reading some terrific books. Have a great week Kathryn.
ReplyDeleteGreat reading week choices. I can't wait to see your review on Bridge of Scarlet Leaves, I read this years ago and still remember the characters and scenes.
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of Anne of Green Gables! One of my favorites from childhood, and I still enjoy reading it.
ReplyDeleteI love how everyone has a little thumbnail photo on here now for their post!
ReplyDeleteAs for weather, this is the coldest winter in a long time here in Italy...
ReplyDeleteAs for reading, I've started 'Rented Silence', a 1920s mystery by Mary Miley and I'm really enjoying it.
I'm also about to start 'Dubliners' by James Joyce. Meant to read it for a long time, and now I've joined a read-along. Seems like the right occasion.
