Summary from cover.
Cord McMillan gave up his freedom at eighteen when he went to jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Now, ten years later, he’s about to give it up again for a piece of land. Nevada Britain, his neighbor, has just made him an offer he can’t refuse: If he’ll marry her, she’ll sign over a section of property that their families have been fighting over for a hundred years. Nevada refuses to explain why, but Cord knows the bargain is in his favor. He just has one condition—she has to sleep in his bed every night for as long as their doomed marriage lasts. Nevada only wants to maintain her family’s legacy—and redeem herself for a wrong she did Cord years ago. But as she spends more time with her husband by necessity, she discovers something unexpected—a love so deep it takes her breath away.

My thoughts.
I loved it.  I really like this Harmony series and this was the second one in the series I gave 5 stars.  All the others were certainly 4 stars for me, and really I could have gone to 5.  Once I started reading this one I didn't want to stop, I just loved the town and the characters that make it up.  Some lose ends were tidied up from previous books, and the new story of Nevada and Cord took centre stage.

This book made me laugh and catch my breath with sadness and smile with joy.  There was a birth, a death and a marriage.  I hoped for a miracle - but that only happens in books - right!  So I was sad about the character that dies, but hopeful for the possibilities it opened up for another character.  I loved that Tyler and Kate Wright's long awaited baby arrived and was welcomed by the founding families of Harmony.

The marriage started out as an arranged one, but soon became a love match.  The tension came from someone out to sabotage the ranch and even to try to kill the pair.  A little bit of mystery to keep me reading on.  Martha Q and the widows added a little quirkiness to the story, as Martha usually does.

I loved the story and the characters.  I hope there is another one in this series.  If you were going to taste the Harmony books I would recommend you start with #1.  You could read this as a stand-a-lone, but you would miss all the little nuances along the way from previous characters' stories.

    1. This is one of her contemporary series. I think she writes historical westerns too, I haven't read any of those but might one day.
