Sheila at Book Journey runs It's Monday! What Are You Reading?
Thank you to Sheila for hosting this meme, which always adds books to my TBR wishlist!
Well this has been a very busy week for me - and yes I have been on holiday, doing holiday appointments like the optometrist and dentist. I also bought a sewing machine after much deliberation, another step towards learning to quilt. First I have to learn how to use the machine! It's still in its box.
This weekend my large extended family gathered in town as on Saturday we had a blessing of a memorial stone for my mum who died last year. It was wet and miserable, but even two of her great grand children turned up in arms or carry cot. We prayed and then removed the cover - which a grandson and great grandson did.
On the Sunday, we celebrated my Dad's 90th birthday, at present he still lives in his own home, enjoys listening to music, painting and reading.
Ten in my family - one hidden behind Dad and one great grandchild there with her grandmother. My youngest sister is there behind Dad, I am the one kneeling on the floor - the oldest! We had a great day.
Reading in the last week:
Loved it!
Still in two minds.
Reluctantly liked it!
My favourite series by Jill Shalvis
Liked this one too.
Novella that I won on Armchair BEA
It was quite melodramatic in my opinion!
My listening book.
Enjoyed it too.
I am presently reading:
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I won this on Goodreads, I have seen some great reviews from those I follow, and some poor ones from people I don't. I am therefore expecting to enjoy it! It's the beginning of a new fantasy series.
Save the Date by Mary Kay Andrews. This one is my audiobook - generally takes me awhile to get through one.
Up next:
Swan Point by Sherryl Woods
Hope you all have enjoyed your books and are ready for more!
Happy birthday to your dad! Looks like quite a family gathering and I'm glad so many could be there.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like The Queen of the Tearling. I am curious about that one. I've heard that Emma Watson is going to be starring in the movie. I will have to check out the Jill Shalvis book. I've read a couple of hers that I liked.
Yes it does say on the blurb at the back that they have Emma Watson for the movie. Enjoying it so far.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your Dad, how special! I love that cake :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books. I've read a few of the Mercy Thompson series but have stopped reading them for awhile. The others I haven't read yet, but they look good.
These look great! I know so many people have been waiting for the new Outlander. I'm only on book five but can't wait for the series to start on Starz in August!
ReplyDeleteI also followed on Twitter because I don't think I have visited your blog before.
Here is mine:

Love the family photos and how special to have so many of your family present for your Mum's memorial blessing. Happy Birthday to your Dad, wonderful that he's so active and independent at 90, I hope my Dad is the same at that age.
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about The Queen of the Tearling, it's on my TBR pile, hope you enjoy it and yay for Jill's Animal Magnetism series!
Have a wonderful week and happy reading :)
What a wonderful family celebration! I love the photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat family photos! Wonderful celebration....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books! I want to read Save the Date. Thanks for visiting my blog.
How lovely to spend time with family especially on such a bittersweet occasion. You have done a lot of reading too! The queen of Tearling is on my reading list for this week.

Looks like you had an amazing week. I enjoyed The Queen of the Tearling. I got mine from Amazon Vine. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIf I had my pick, would pick A Man To Hold On To by Pappano. I'm familiar with her romances. Love your family photos. Your mother's stone is lovely. It doesn't make me feel sad. I'll bet it makes you feel at peace too.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss. Happy Birthday to your Dad. I've read positive things about Save The Date. Enjoy your holiday and sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing your dad still lives on his own! I hope that seeing all the family together made up for the sadness over your mother. I've got 'The Queen of Tearling' waiting for me as well, can't wait to get started! Thanks for sharing :)
