Sheila at Book Journey runs It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Our dry hot summer continues, my lawn is just a dusty brown patch, I am just watering a few vegetables and that is it, as we now pay for our water.

This past week I caught up with season five of Downton Abbey and so this week I am ready for the Christmas extras which screen here this week.

Best wishes to my Australian neighbours who  are celebrating their Australia Day  and have a long weekend to help those celebrations. I enjoyed hopping around the blog hop organised by Shellyrae over at Book'd Out  There are so many amazing Australian authors.

What I finished reading this week:

    1. Viki the wonder of a life of retirement! KH book is very good so far, but war torn France in second world war is not pretty!

    2. Definitely a different Kristin Hannah, but hopefully still good though. Glad that your retirement allows a lot of reading now.

  3. I have The Nightingale on my upcoming TBR list. I was going to read it this week but decided to put it off for awhile because I just read The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes which is also set in France and deals with German Occupation (but during WW1). I look forward to reading your thoughts on this one. I've only read a contemporary novel by her (Home Front) but I liked it.

    1. Yes I loved Home Front. And I can see why you would need space between two books on France and German occupation. WW2 not better I am sure!

  4. I only watched the first season of Downton Abbey and never got around to the second season. I figured it was a sign that it didn't grab me enough and I hated (well, disliked) the main character. I liked one of the sisters better and then read that she'd gotten killed off, so....

  6. I'm looking forward to a dry hot (well maybe not TOO hot) as we've been cold here- no snow tho so that is something. The Jill Mansell book has a very summery feel to it. Enjoy your week!

  11. I'm so jealous it's warm over at yours, although it sounds like the garden isn't really enjoying it! It's absolutely freezing over here and even tea doesn't help anymore. I read 'Dark Witch' a couple of weeks ago and did enjoy it, although I wasn't blown away by it! Thanks for sharing :) Have a great week!

  12. The Susan Donovan trilogy has piqued my interest--I'm off to find out more.

Your summer comment made me smile. It's winter here--and a "historic" blizzard is on its way to NYC. Two to three feet is predicted.

  13. I haven't watched past episode one of Downton Abbey but I really want to. It's not easy with a toddler in the house! I haven't read a lot of Nora Roberts but my sister-in-law keeps recommending her to me so I probably should look into her work further. Happy Reading!

  14. I enjoyed The Nightingale...and The Secrets of Midwives. And, surprising to me, Dark Witch. I knew that I might not like it, since witches are not really my thing. But Nora Roberts's witches are exceptional...LOL.

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

    1. I'm liking Ten Tiny Breaths, it was a bit of a stretch for me as I dislike 1st person present tense but the narrator does such a great job I don't care! She has made me forget my dislike!

  16. We've barely gotten started with season 5 of Downton Abbey, only because it just started showing here in the States. I wonder why it's different everywhere? Enjoy your week!

  17. I love the cover of Sea of Love!

I love to hear the differences between countries- how cool that you didn't have to pay for your water for a time. I am sorry that you now have to, if you didn't before.

  18. Several of these are new to me, like Ten Tiny Breaths. I'll be interested in your thoughts. Others are pretty reliable for enjoyment like Rice, Mansill, Roberts and Hannah. I hope you have a good week!

  19. You had a fantastic reading week! Hoping you loved The Nightingale as much as I did even though it was a heartbreaking read, I've been in a bit of a rut since finishing it. I'm off to check out your review of Beach Girls.
Thanks for the reminder, I watched Downton while in the UK but was back before the Christmas special aired so I've got that to look forward to. Have a great week and enjoy your new reads :)

    1. It is difficult to come off a book like The Nightingale and then to read something else. Loved the book and was sobbing non stop at the end! Guess most readers did!
