“Marking Time” continues the story begun in “Treading Water” as Clare Harrington begins a new life. She’s considered a miracle, but everything that’s happened since she recovered from a three-year coma has been something less than miraculous. Now left to grapple with the aftermath of a selfless decision, she is home from the hospital and trying to figure out what the next chapter in her miraculous recovery has in store for her. Meanwhile, her eighteen-year-old daughter Kate, a talented singer and songwriter, sets out to pursue her musical dreams in Nashville. Her parents have agreed to allow Kate to spend a year there, but they couldn't have anticipated Kate falling in love with a much older man. Her newly divorced parents are forced back together to confront their wayward daughter. Spanning from Newport, Rhode Island, to Nashville, Tennessee, to Stowe, Vermont, "Marking Time" is the story of new beginnings and new loves.
My thoughts banner
Marking Time by Marie Force is #2 in her Treading Water series.  I have to say I once I begin reading her books and series I find myself addicted.  As I started this one, I said to myself - I'll just read this one and give the next two a miss!  Not happening, I know I'll need to carry on.

This book is a good follow up to the the first one, Treading Water, because we are given very well the whole story from Clare's point of view.  I'm getting old enough now though, that I appreciate the way Marie Force recaps what has happened previously so that it all comes back to me.

Imagine waking up three years after being in a coma, to find your husband in love with someone else and your three girls all that much older.  Well I can't but reading Clare's story helps a bit.  This book shows how she adapts and grows, finds new meaning in her life.

There is a secondary story going on with Kate, her daughter, and a man who is twenty eight years older than her.  A bit of an age gap there.  I was reading a book, so you know its only a story, but in real life that is quite a difference in age.  I think its better to be wrinkly together!  Anyway, I still enjoyed the story.  There is more to Kate's story so I guess I'll have to read her book!

I am a bit of a contemporary romance addict and this book just went on feeding my addiction!

  1. Great review Kathryn! I can't imagine what it would be like to wake up after being in a coma for three years either. This sounds like a good series.

  2. Thanks, Kathryn for a very good review. I think I remember you recommending Marie Force a couple of times before and I keep forgetting to check her series out. I might look for Treading Water soon based on your praise :)
