It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 24th April

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Well we have had a week of gorgeous sunny, no wind weather which has been so wonderful. Had a sort of busy week, as I took one of my sisters to a couple  of her medical appointments and as well my 92 year old Dad had me out buying a few things for him.

Apart from that I had a day with a friend, quilted somewhat and read somewhat and did a teensy bit of gardening, really should get out there today. We shall see!

What I read last week:

First two were good okay reading, favourite of the week was my audiobook.

From the recently bought shelf.

Completed audiobook.

I bought this book on sale at Audible after ready Mary's review over at Book Fan. She says it is a wonderful audio production. I haven't started it yet and may still go into the new Wendy Wax one that comes out on the 25th. And then back to this one. So looking forward to my listening.

What I am reading at present:

Just getting into this one, ... a little slowly.

Update
Read to about 50% but just wasn't feeling it or enjoying it. Got tired of Bess and Cissie and the house problem. Didn't like the language and in many parts of the book there was too much dialogue. While many readers have enjoyed this, it may be a case of "just not for me'. I was drawn in by the title and the cover.

  1. You had a lovely week! Thanks for sharing, and hope you have another great one. I like the look of True Blue, but probably would prefer the e-book format.

  2. I had a busy week too — mostly revolving around my daughter's schedule. We had some rain and some wind. We're slowly gearing up for summer here — the winds are the semi annual shift in the direction of the winds. By summer the air flow will be from the inland which will heat things up. Then come fall the fog will finally come from the shore to us and cool things down.

  3. I liked Mary's review of The Choir book too. I will look for your review too. The Summer book appeals to me. Have a great week!

  5. Your weather patterns always seem to mirror ours in West Australia. We too have been blessed with a sunny week. A thunderstorm was predicted over the weekend but it never made an appearance. I am enjoying this lovely warm autumn weather.

Great books this week. I enjoyed reading through your reviews on Almost Missed You and The Little Breton Bistro. I also have The Chilbury Ladies Choir to read as I saw some great reviews on Goodreads/blogs.

Have a lovely week, hope you managed to get some gardening in along with some reading too :-)

  6. I should have been doing things in the garden yesterday. I pottered a bit but other than that not enough. Here's to a good week!

  7. I'm curious about The Chilbury Ladies Choir. Sounds a great audiobook. I haven't reviewed any audiobooks yet but I'm planning to. I hope you enjoy all these books. Have a wonderful week and happy reading. :)

  8. I remembering DNFing a book, because of too much dialog. I don't know, but I need time in a character's head. I hope your new audiobook is great, and have a fantastic week!

  9. I love the audiobook cover of "The Chillbury Ladies' Choir"! I have that book on my to-read list to get to one day. Bummer about not enjoying "The Book of Summer." I read her debut last year at this time and thought it was pretty good, but I totally get certain books rubbing you the wrong way! It's always hard for me to DNF a book, but then I think about that whole "too many books, not enough time" quandary and don't feel so bad. :)

  10. I hate it when a book disappoints. But, yes, there are other books...lots of other books.

  12. Great on the nice weather. We have some nice temperatures coming up. :)

I always took my parents to appointments and got things for them. So nice when you can help them.

I agree with you about THE BOOK OF SUMMER. I enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was as good as her other two books. I did give it a 4/5, though.

    Have a terrific week.

  13. How blessed you are to still have your father. It is nice he can still get around too.

  14. Those books are all new to me. Glad to hear that you had a good week. Weather-wise, our weather took a nose dive and we actually had flurries on Saturday! It melted already, but it sure made the robins confused! Have a great week!

  15. I always enjoy Luanne Rice's books. I'll have to look for True Blue at the library. I don't think I read that one yet.

  16. The cover of The Book Of Summer caught my eye too. I am sorry that you are not getting into it. Oh well, there are tons more books out there waiting for you. Have a great week!

  17. Great choices Kathryn. I'm knee dee in reviews trying to get them all put to bed before my daughter's destination wedding in Mexico. Yay!!! Can't wait!

  18. I totally forgot to leave my link! Love Luanne Rice's books, don't believe I've experienced one on audio yet. The cover of The Book of Summer caught my eye too.

  19. Glad to hear about the good weather, quilting, gardening and family time and hope the doctor appointments went well :)
I also had to put aside two of the books I was reading last week :( wasn't feeling them either. I hope is not a slump!

  20. Sounds like you had a very nice week with great weather! I often take my 91-year old father-in-law to doctor's appts, so I know how that goes - at least you got to spend some time with your sister. Looks like you have some good books going, too - I have been hearing a lot about the Chilbury Ladies Choir - bet it will be great on audio!

Enjoy your books this week -

  22. I really need to get back to Daniels books. It's been a while. Glad it was fun.

  23. For my Classics Challenge post that I linked, I have not even scratched the surface. I started with Wuthering Heights, but gave up on it because I couldn't follow the language. For the challenge purpose, I'm going to read it again later. I did enjoy a Little of Lady Chatterley's Lover but I forgot to renew my library copy so I have to read that at another time as well. For my Victorian reading challenge, I'm 75-80% done with Tess of D'Urbervilles. Just got notification that my copies of The Cantebury Tales and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall are available so I'll be cracking them open tomorrow!

  24. Good for you on makin' that call about the last book; why waste your time? I was going to mention the book I added to DNF some time ago but I said forget about it; not worth it. You had a great week of variety. I hope your ohana is doing well.

  25. Oh that's too bad about The Book of Summer. The cover is gorgeous and so summery but I think I'll give it a mess. For fiction or contemporary I have to really like the characters or at least sympathize with them or I'm not going to make it. Mary sold me on the Chillbury Ladies' Choir too and I can't wait to listen to it. Have a great week!

  26. Looks like you have a nice selection. I have a BJ Daniels book on my shelf, though it was sent to me unsolicited and I don't know if I'll ever read it. Just doesn't seem like my kind of book. Girl Who Reads

  28. Great set of books you got! I've read Jodi Thomas' Lottery Wife series and I've really enjoyed that series! I need to check out this Jodi Thomas book!

  29. I've had some pretty nice weather out my way too. Had to turn on the AC a few times in the car. Of course, the downside is the Coming of the Scorpions. Nothing quite like finding one of those suckers in your bathroom in the middle of the night. :P
Hope your next read is more to your taste!

  30. So glad you had good weather and got to visit with family. Plus quilting and gardening. And reading/listening of course. A good week indeed.
Sorry the one book didn't work for you. I've had a few like that. We don't all have the same tastes...at the same time. The Jodi Thomas cover is loverly.
    Happy Reading!

  31. Sounds like a fulfilling week. I tried to get the Bistro book and was disappointed. Sigh.
