Billy from Ramblings of a Coffee Addict has relaunched the Book Blogger Hop. Each week the hop will start on Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt just like before. The hop’s purpose will remain the same as it will give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
This week's topic:
Do you like or dislike Rafflecopter and why?
I have not yet used Rafflecopter so I am not really qualified to discuss this topic. As my blog has only been going for six months I have not yet been involved in a giveaway. At some stage I will do one to gain some experience! I will be interested in what others say. I have seen a Google form used where you just put in your name and email - no hoops to jump through to enter! I am guessing it does the random picking for you.
However that said, Rafflecopter would appear to do the job? I have used it for entering simple Giveaways, but sometimes don't appreciate the hoops you need to jump through to enter. When entering I do like clear terms and conditions, and I like to see the blogger post the winner in a post on their blog, that way seems up front to me. But as I said, very little experience as yet in this field. Any recommendations welcome!
I have to agree that the hoops is the clear disadvantage with Rafflecopter, but it is all in how the individual uses it.

My BBH...
I never used it for a giveaway simply because I don't like all the things you have to make the entrants do.
DeleteThe number of things that have to be done is my major "rant" when I see a contest using it.
I guess I did get a lot of energy going today, didn't I? It is a good discussion, though.

I like using Rafflecopter for giveaways. I can copy any of my previous giveaway forums, so my facebook and twitter are always listed in them, but I do have to the change the giveaway title and the item I'm giving away.
ReplyDeleteI don't use it nor do I enter any contest that has it. There are too many hoops to jump through.
ReplyDeleteStop by for my "full" rant at the link below.
Happy Hopping!!

My Blog Hop Answer
That's a good question, I wonder if Google picks the winner for you too. I'll have to check this out.
ReplyDeleteMy post
Google doesn't choose the winner, but it does give you an Excel Spreadsheet with the names being assigned a number.
DeleteYou just the number range and put it in random.org and you have you winner chosen randomly and quickly. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. I have to agree with you, I don't have much experience in giveaways either.

Hey, Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I hate the thought of pulling names out of a hat again. Lol. So I'm DEFINITELY sold on Rafflecopter!! And I would of course recommend it to you. I hope you do use it when you finally do host a giveaway. I was happy to help by providing the link to their website. :)
As for your comment about 'jumping through hoops', let me tell you that I do NOT jump through all of them just so I can win a book. If I don't like a particular 'hoop', then I refuse to jump through it! Hee, hee! For instance, on many giveaway widgets, one of the entry options is to like a Twitter account, or follow a Twitter account. I don't have such an account myself, simply because I don't have the time to tweet! I have TWO jobs -- a full-time, and a part-time. (I took the day off today, so I have plenty of time to do my beloved blogging! YAY!!) So I simply avoid those entry options, and click on the ones I'm interested in. You can do the same.
Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting on my BBH post!! Hope you have a GREAT weekend!! :)

DeleteThanks for that very comprehensive reply. Wow I don't know how you do it, with a full time and part time job. I am one full time jobber, and looking forward to being retired end 2014. Being online does soak up time from reading too! I looked down my nose at a student and said you are addicted to that ipod. Truth is I am a fellow addict!
You're very welcome, Kath! I don't know how I do it, either...and you're so right -- blogging DOES take time away from reading. I'm currently trying to strike a balance. As for being addicted to the computer, heck, I used to grouse at my husband for being on the computer all the time, and not paying attention to me...and now I'm on the computer all the time! (He is, too, when he's not playing video games. lol.) So we're all addicts together!
DeleteHappy Blogging!!! (And reading!!) : )
