Book Blog Hop

Billy from  Ramblings of a Coffee Addict has relaunched the Book Blogger Hop. Each week the hop will start on Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt just like before. The hop’s purpose will remain the same as it will give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week:
Were you born a bookworm or did someone get you into the habit of reading?

I can never remember not wanting to read a book.  I always remember loving them.  My Dad loves reading so he probably encouraged it when I was young.  I grew up loving Enid Blyton's Noddy and Big Ears, then many of her other books.  As I grew to school age I read whatever I could get my hands on.  We only had a very small class library and no public library all through my elementary and middle grade years.  I was always wandering around looking for a book.

Now we have a great public library and of course the internet to feed my reading appetite.  My joy now is to entice my students who are not natural bookworms into reading.  With lots of success I might add!

  3. It's too bad you didn't have a public library around when you were growing up. My town was small, and so was the library (it still is), but it was heaven to be able to go and check out books there.

Way to go with encouraging future bookworms! :)

  4. Isn't it wonderful to get non-readers to start enjoying books. Keep up the good work.

  6. Oh, it's so WONDERFUL that you were actually "wandering around looking for a book"! I know that sounds like I'm happy you didn't have enough books to read, so I'll explain. What I mean is that it's wonderful you felt that burning desire to read. It's kind of sad that you didn't have enough books available at the time... So I'm very happy that you now have access to a big library, as well as the Internet!! Ah, BLISS!!!!

I'd like to commend you for encouraging your students to become bookworms!! That's one of the most important tasks any teacher could engage in! I also congratulate you on your success so far, and wish you many more years of it!

Also, thanks for visiting my blog and commenting on my BBH post!! Happy Reading!!!! : )

    1. Maria, thanks, you understand that child reader hunger in me perfectly! It is very satisfying to turn a book hater into a book lover. It takes time and I have been fortunate to have students in my class for a couple of years so that I have the time to do it. It is the best thing about being a teacher.

    2. Although I'm a teacher as well, I teach adults, so it's not quite the same. It must be the BEST feeling in the world when one of your students, who formerly looked at books as if they were "uncool", suddenly grasps the wonder of reading, and takes off from there! You're very welcome!! Keep up the great work!! : )

  7. Wow, I'm the only one in my family that reads! And I mean read and purchase books like they buy clothing and food. LOL And I think it's great that you're encouraging your students to read more. You'll never know who you'll impact in the future :D Keep up the great work!

  8. I think it's great that you entice your students to read. Fortunately I'm not the only one in my family that likes reading - even though I'm the only true bookaholic.

I'm now following you on Twitter.
