As an Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now a defector, his dark abilities have made him the most deadly of assassins - cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna....
Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted - and had her mind violated- by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels agains the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives.
My thoughts:
Firstly, I loved it! Nalini Singh is a very good writer, with a wonderful imagination. She has created a world that is new and interesting. I don't read a lot of paranormal books, but I am finding this series addictive. I have already lined up the next three from the library! I was discussing these books online on the Seppies (Susan Elizabeth Phillips fans) Facebook page. Of course some are delighted that I have become hooked. However some will just not touch a paranormal romance. They don't read 'paranormal'. I think that is a shame, because this series is good.
This time we meet a male Psy who has already defected from the Psy group and is living with the SnowDancers. This book then is set in the wolves part of the forest, and the reader is given more insight into their way of living. Brenna is the main female, we met her in Book one, and I wondered then whether we would see more of her. So happy to say we do! Judd is a somewhat different Psy from the two females in the previous two books, he has a different skill set, and different obstacles to overcome. Brenna was tortured by a rogue Psy who had many of the same skill set as does Judd. It is therefore a huge challenge for her to trust Judd and to trust the attraction that is between the two of them.
There is mystery, adventure and romance in this book. I had to read it a little more slowly than I did # No 2 in the series as the angle of it was different enough, that I had to pay attention! A good thing right! Some of the characters from the previous books are still here and will in the future have their own book no doubt. The Psy council still is a part of the mystery and are still carrying out unspeakable horrors on others. Kaleb the new councillor is a dark horse, is he okay or is he on the side of evil? Then there is the Ghost and Father Perez who seem to be working with Judd to bring down the Psy council plans. At the end of the book the reader is non the wiser, we may meet them again further along I suspect, and gain a clearer picture.
Do you read paranormal romance? If yes, what are your favourites and if not - what holds you back from trying them?
There was a time when I didn't read paranormal. But now I love it! One of my favorite series is the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. After reading your glowing reviews, I am going to be keeping my eye out for this series.
ReplyDeleteNise, I have read some of the BDB and enjoyed most of them. I haven't read them all but still many of them. I am actually a fan of her first books when she wrote as Jessica Bird, but they aren't paranormal.
