It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?
Sheila at Book Journey runs It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It is a bright, sunny spring morning!  Yesterday we had a howling southerly and it was like the middle of winter, in the end I lit the fire and still huddled in a blanket for quite awhile as I read!

I now have two weeks break from work - school is out!  I felt like I crawled through the last week so I sure am ready for it.  This will be my last school holidays - the next one at Christmas signals retirement.  I am eagerly awaiting, although a little nervous as well.

Yesterday I finished a jigsaw, it was back in the mist when I started it, possibly last Christmas!  I am sporadic but I wanted to finish this one because I have a couple new ones coming that I want to do - all with a book theme!  I bought the one below online at Trademe so its an old one and I found a piece was missing, however still worth doing.  It is called Summer Romance by Susan Brabeau. Spot the missing piece!!
Summer Romance by Susan Brabeau

What I read last week.
Another good one from Marie Force.
2nd in her Green Mountain series.

Loved this one
5 star read.

What I am reading right now:
Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
This one is different from her usual romantic comedy books, although she has mixed things up before.  This one is in honour of writers like Mary Stewart, Victoria Holt, Charlotte Bronte, Daphne du Maurier, Anya Seton and Phyllis Witney.  It has more than a touch of the gothic to it, so I am going to call it modern gothic romantic fiction!

Up next:
Kingston's Project by Carrie Beckort
It is the one I have up next for  a read and review.  Then I will pick one up of my bookshelf, probably a library book before it has to go back.

  1. Glad to hear the weather improved- we'll be heading into winter ourselves all too soon, but hopefully we'll have a nice long autumn first. :) Enjoy your 2 weeks off!

Nice jigsaw by the way- a very bookish scene!

    1. Indeed Greg and I have gone a little crazy on buying book related jigsaws just recently! Hope that autumn is good - it is a lovely time of year with all its colours.

  2. I hope you have lovely weather for your break time. I love jigsaws but haven't done one for quite sometime - except to help the grandkids with their little ones. :-) Do you ever glue them for wall hanging? I love the idea of book themed ones.
I look forward to reading Heroes by SEP in another couple of weeks. Until then I'll have to be careful not to read the reviews for those of you reading it now. :-) Happy Reading!

    1. Martha, no I never glue them up, happily break them up after a couple of days, much to one of my sister's dismay who can't understand all the work and then to do that! But truly its about the journey not the end point!
Hope you enjoy Heroes - I just finished it, and I won't say anymore!

  5. I love the scene in the jigsaw...very cozy!

I recall the mixed feelings I had about retirement, but once I had done it, I never regretted it. Loving it...and although I did some additional work for another company after I retired, it was like a break, in a way, since it was something new. And I only did it for a while.

Enjoy your break...and thanks for visiting my blog.

  6. Ooo Heroes Are My Weakness sounds perfect for me! I love a good gothic romance, and a modern one would be fun!

    Enjoy your time off!

  7. I would like Heroes are my Weakness! A bit different from her usual writing, I see. I haven't tried a Marie Force yet but I should.

I love your puzzle with the bookish scene! Coincidentally, my family has been working on a jigsaw puzzle slowly on the weekends, ours has a Smithsonian scene.

I'm early retired and while it is an adjustment, it has its good points, obviously, though I do miss the old days sometimes.

  9. Marie Force is on my list of to-read authors. I have a copy of Fatal Affair that keeps getting pushed aside for newer, shinier books.

Lovely jigsaw puzzle...hope you'll show us the others in progress when you start them.

Enjoy your school break and preparations for retirement. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  12. I love jigsaws but for some reason only make them at Christmas! Maybe because I have the time then but also because my mother makes them at Christmas only and I love sitting down with her and frowning at all the small pieces trying to make them fit!
Thanks for joining in my spreading the blogging feel-good feels feature! I love your header and I see loads of my favourite colour purple which always makes me feel happy :)

  14. That's a cute puzzle, and I can't see the missing piece, lol! A chilly day with a blanket, fire, and book sounds lovely. I'm looking forward to cooler days so I can do the same. =)

  15. It's been a few years since I did a puzzle but I do love them and yours is lovely. Is the missing piece on the cat's ear? So glad you loved Outback Ghost too. Enjoy holidays and reading ... woohoo lots more of that come retirement and maybe you'll get into quilting :)
