It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Welcome in. I guess everyone is in the throes of Christmas pre-planning. I see shopping numbers already increased in our local area.   My washing machine went crazy in the last week and I had to go buy a new one, after weighing up the options of repair or replace. Even though it felt like yesterday that I got it, it is eleven years old.  It still has to be delivered, they said mid week so fingers are crossed for it.

Apart from that a very ordinary week ( yay for ordinary), I sewed and er... no housework, took the car to get its warrant - job that had to be done. Now I am up reasonably early looking at the weather and wondering how soon is kind to go out and mow the lawn before the rain comes. It's Monday, so I am going to say 8.30am. Sorry any sleepers in.  Heavy rain is in the forecast.

Other than that I have been taking stock of the challenges I have participated in and will participate in for 2017. (Less). I have also now posted the two challenges I will host for 2017. I will also be taking part in Flylef's and A Kernel of Nonsense  commenting challenge for January.

What I read last week:

book cover
I finished listening to Endless Chain. This was a reread for me and I really loved it all over again. I look forward to rereading the whole series with the promise of maybe a new one in the series coming later on.

I completed reading Breath of Fire, I liked it but I have some small reservations. I keep seeing ideas from other books in it. Even reading Cinder I saw something similar. Might just be me, seeing things where they are not!

#37 in the series, I am almost caught up as I have read the two recent ones. 2017 will see me totally caught up. The killer was horrible and totally ungrateful, in contrast to Nixie who while having had such terrible things happen to her has an attitude of supreme gratitude. She made a cameo appearance in this book. The little girl whose family was massacred in front of her from a book way back.

I finally got around to reading Cinder, after it has been on my radar since it was published, thanks to Kellee from Unleashing Readers actually, as it was her review that first attracted me. I so look forward to reading the rest of the series. This one so clever.

What I am reading at present:

Listening to...

This is the first one in a series I read the third one of recently, and liked it enough to go back! So am listening to this one - almost 23hours so will keep me going for awhile.

#2 in her Black Dagger Legacy series - just published. I have a review copy thanks to Hachette NZ.

Up next:

An older one of Emilie Richard's books that I am catching up on.

And from the TBR another 'oldie'.

  1. I loved Cinder and the rest of the series. Glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry to hear about your washing machine. They don't seem to last as long as they used to. Hopefully the new one will arrive soon.

I envy your weather as it is cold and snowy and we just had freezing rain :(

Hope you have a great week!

  2. Christmas planning is definitely in high gear, good grief the malls here are crazy. trying to order as much over the Internet as I can. Plus it's snowing up a storm here... ah winter has arrived. :)

Closer Than You Think looks like a suspenseful thriller. Hope you have a great week!

  3. Christmas is definately on its way! I have made a dent in my present shopping just this weekend but have a bit to go yet. Lucky for me I'm off camping on boxing day so I'm not in charge of food this year, which is a nice reprieve.

I just read your review of the new Lucy Dillon book, now I'm tempted to go back to the shops to get myself a copy. A great review.

Enjoy the rest of your books this week, a good haul

Fingers crossed your washing machine arrives too - I don't know what I would do without mine, it's usually on every day!

    Amanda :-)

  4. My washer is almost ten years old, so I am now very afraid...LOL. Things do tend to give out sooner than we think they will.

I will never catch up on the J.D. Robb books...I've read three of them, and enjoyed them...but it's been a while.

I love Diane Chamberlain's books...and I suspect I've read this one, but with a different title.

    Enjoy your week!

  5. Cinder looks interesting. I will trade your rain for the 3-5 inches of snow we are supposed to get tonight.

  6. Sorry to hear about the washing machine. We are looking at replacing my used car as it is suffering issues. I would wait till next year but I think my hubby plans to get one for Christmas. We'll see. :-)
I'm glad I'm not the only one still getting around to reading Cinder. It was on this year's list but will probably get into early 2017.
I'll have to make time to finish up this year's challenges and then look at a few for next year.
I hope you have a grand week!

  7. Hope the washing machine arrives soon!
Love the new pics on the links - great work. Have a lovely week.

  8. Nightmare on the washing machine, especially if it's raining as no chance to get clothes on the line (my preferred drying method). Like the look of the commenting challenge - will be interested in finding out more than that. Have a good week.

  9. Good luck with the new washing machine. We're having a lot of rain right now, but it's better than snow.

I really want to get back to J.D. Robb's series but I'm so far behind. I hope you have a good week.

  10. Ugh, what a yucky time to have to buy a new washing machine! I hope it all goes well and at least you won't have to worry about it again for a while. Thanks so much for hosting and I hope you have a great week!

  11. Woke up to snow this morning. I used to participate in lots of challenges but that's changed since I started working full-time. I have yet to read Cinder. My daughter loved the whole series!

  12. Good Luck with your new washing machine. Cinder was on my radar for awhile, but I never did read it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a great week and thanks for hosting this meme! I hope to participate more often.

  13. Wow! You really do read quite fast.
Good look with the washing machine, and congrats on the boring task of getting a car warrant!

  14. I might like to read Cinder - it certainly has an eye-catching cover!
Thanks for hosting this link-up each week!

  15. I like the new linkup - I am a visual person. :)

Nice reading week for you. I barely manage one book in over a week. :) Slow poke reader I guess. :)

I hear you about the washing machine...seems like they break more quickly these days. :(

Oh yes on the lawn...we usually wait until 9 to do the mowing. :)

    ENJOY your week.

  16. Ooooooh, I'm jealous. You have Blood Vow already! Hope you enjoy all your goodies. You have rain, and we've been hit with a dump of 30+ cm. I posted some pics on my Sunday Post. Have a great week!

  17. I need to finally get around to reading Cinder, too. I don't know why it keeps getting pushed back.

  18. I know how bad it is being without a washing machine, so I feel for you. I am having trouble with my dryer, but it's Christmas time so I am trying to deal with it.

I am new to your site, thanks to Laura Childs recommending it. I love it, and it is so much fun!

Anyway, I have to admit that I am a book addict. I read books for each season, but I picked so many Halloween books, so I am trying to finish them. I also have 2 Thanksgiving books, and 1 Christmas book. I must sound crazy. I am reading the following:

    Ghostly: by Audrey Niffenegger

Tippy Toe Murder: by Leslie Meier

The Trouble With Magic: by Madelyn Alt

The Mysterious Death of Miss Jane Austen: by Lindsey Ashford

Jane Vows Vengeance: by Michael Thomas Ford

    Gossamer Ghost: by Laura Childs

Candy Cane Murder: by Leslie Meier

    The Seance: by Heather Graham

Ming Tea Murder: by Laura Childs

The Tavern on Maple Street: by Sharon Owens

The Ghost and Mrs Mewer: by Krista Davis

A Small Town Thanksgiving: by Marie Ferrarella

    Holiday Hideout: by Julie Kenner

    Bedeviled Eggs: by Laura Childs

Well that's it finally! As you might be able to see, my favorite authors are Laura Childs and Leslie Meier.

Thank you so very much for letting me be a part of your site. Happy Holidays!

  21. Wow, an "ordinary" week at this time of year? I can't even imagine! Though it sounds very nice :)

I have heard great things about Cinder for years! I need to get to it, too.

Enjoy your books this week -

    Amen!

  24. Looks like you had a good week. I've fallen away from the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, though periodically I think about playing catch-up. I did enjoy them a lot though.

  26. Wow, I'm late linking up today-- but glad I got on here :) Shopping, gift wrapping, doing my P.T. exercises (ugh and ouch)! And I joined your Read the Books You Buy challenge, too.

I saw the first Amanda Bouchet book on Amazon for daily deal for only .99 cents so I bought it! Hope I like it, despite the circus theme... and I dislike circuses, lol. For that money, can't be too bad for me. I just finished Written in Red by Anne Bishop and I really liked it!

Glad you are having a semi-peaceful week and hope you get your appliance problems solved.

  27. So glad you enjoyed Cinder and I LOVE Emilie Richards. Endless Chain was a good one though it's been so long I don't remember much about it. Too bad on the washing machine but I'm impressed on the 11 years! I had a really fancy one and there was always something wrong with it. I bought the cheapest one I could find this time around and it's been much better behaved. 8:30 is an acceptable time for grass mowing! It's the 6AM people I dislike!

  28. A book blogger's review could sway me to add the book to my TBR too. You had one heck of a good reading week. Glad you liked Cinder.

  29. Glad you enjoyed Cinder - I've just read it too however my review is still to come. :)

Hope the Ward series is good - I keep meaning to try it!

Sorry about your washing machine but I hope that the new one is good! Have a great week!
