It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
Yes I know the end of October is nigh! How is that happening!
I seem to have plenty of time and not enough. We are in the process of putting my Dad's house on the market to sell. What a business that is! Today I have to go to the Council and get the LIM report - everything the Council knows about a property. When I bought my house a few years back I - the buyer had to go get it, seemingly now the thing is for the seller to have it there and the prospective buyer has it before they blink! Things change!
On Saturday I went to the next town to buy a bit of fabric. I arrived there at 9:15 am. And found out the shop opened at 10am. And so did almost every other shop in the complex! It's one of the most popular retirement towns in NZ so I guess it figured! Deciding I'd wait, I was so annoyed with myself for not checking first and... not having a book with me to read. I need to remember to have one with me for emergencies such as this!!
What I read last week:
I finished listening to this book. Really enjoyed it. Perfect for audio. And to think it is a debut novel.
I read the following book from my books bought in 2017. It is followed by four more about these characters so that is something to look forward to.
What I am reading at present:
I have nearly finished this one - about 50 more pages. Excellent writing and very engaging, but oh so tough to read in places because of the topic.
Looking forward to Now That You Mention It. Oh yeah, I would be a annoyed that I forgot to bring a book along!
ReplyDeleteHaving a book in my bag (usually my Kindle) is how I plan for such occasions...but sometimes we don't think we'll need one.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you enjoyed Blue Jeans & Coffee Beans...and I liked The Round House, which I read a few years ago. In fact, it was so long ago that it isn't listed on my Goodreads pages!
Enjoy your week! Good luck selling the house.
We found similar changes in rules when we sold our condo over the summer. Thankfully our realtor was there to help us sort things out.
ReplyDeleteCome see what I'm reading
I'm curious to know what that retirement town is! I'm just back from two weeks in NZ visiting family, and we drove through a few retirement towns - all the city folk moving out to the country! 😊
ReplyDeleteEleanor Oliphant is a fabulous novel.
ReplyDeleteThat's happened to me where I'd have a long wait and forgot to bring my Kindle or a book. I try not to let that happen, but sometimes it does. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I always like to have a book with me when I leave the house because even waiting 10 minutes can make for some awesome reading! I hope it all works out to sell your dad's place.
ReplyDeleteMy golden rule is always bring a book just in case! I love the look of the Kristan Higgins book. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteOh...I would have been upset sitting there without a book.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the house sale.
Happy Reading - THE ROUND HOUSE was read by a few friends, and they enjoyed it.

I've heard good things about Eleanor Oliphant. I'll have to add that one to my list. I think I need to read a National Book Award winner for one of my challenges, so I think I'll have to look for The Round House.
ReplyDeleteI always have my iPod with me so that I can listen to my audiobooks wherever I am.
Have a great week!
I hope you managed to find a lot of fabric after having to wait! I had a similar thing happen a couple of weeks ago when I went to the library. I always go to the library at the end of the day so I didn't realize they didn't open until 10. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI could totally relate to your story of arriving before the shops open. That used to happen to me when my son was very young, before he started school. He'd be up super early, so we'd head out to run errands, only to find that everything was closed! ha ha Back then, we solved the problem by going out for donuts, but I think carrying an emergency book is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteGood books this week for you. I really want to read Eleanor Oliphant and also Round House. I read my first Erdrich novel this year, LaRose, and really enjoyed it. Some tough topics, like you said, but so well-written, a sense of humor, and an uplifting ending.
Hope you enjoy your books this week - carry one with you at all times!

Book By Book
Good luck with the house sale, Kathryn. I've enjoyed a few of DeMaio's novels and just bought her most recent stand alone (at least I think it's a stand alone, ha). I have Eleanor Oliphant on my audible wish list. Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteA great asortment of books. I want to read the Higgins book.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books :)
ReplyDeleteLovely books! So sorry about your wait! I hate when that happens!
ReplyDeleteThe concept of a retirement town sounds really interesting. I like how it has supported businesses. It makes me think of the Booktown Mystery series for some reason. I'm sorry you had to wait around; I hate having idle time also.
ReplyDeleteI normally have my Kindle with me when I expect to wait but I don't always have it and I've been burned a time or two! I hate sitting there thinking how much reading time I'd have if I'd brought it! I've got the Higgins book on my list and I really want to read the DeMaio - really any of her books will work. Hope your week is going great!
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy it's already November! I hope you're enjoying your reads :)
