It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
Hello to you all from the land of hot weather. I am just holding up! I have become very lazy and have decided I need to be better and go for some walks early in the morning down at the beach to escape the hot sun later on. Later on I use it as an excuse not to go out. Our weather people tell us the hot air is coming from Australia!
I will be travelling most likely next week but I will have a post up and hopefully all will go according to plan as I schedule the post. If not you know there's been a glitch! I am off to Rotorua with one of my sisters to visit another and some fabric shopping is intended!!
This week my eye was caught by an author on Facebook who was so distressed by the hundreds of sites enabling readers to read her books illegally for free. My heart went out to her. There was a link to Maggie Steifvater who explains so well how this theft affects us all.
What I read last week:
As it turns out I read two books set in WW11 - unintentional, but as it worked out they were quite different so that was okay. Reviews will follow for both books. Both new to me authors and I have just bought a previous book by Soraya M Lane as I was impressed by this one.
I also finished listening to this book that became quite heart stopping with tension towards the final chapters.
What I am reading at present:
Just starting - a couple of Australian bloggers rated this book very well so I bought the Kindle version last year and now just reaching on it.
And I've started listening to this one - published this month and couldn't resist using a credit for it on Audible.
Up next:
This is a Modern Mrs Darcy book club read for February so I have borrowed it from the library. I note that you Laurel-Rain have read it and have taken note of your view, so at least being fore -warned may help!
Have a nice time away and hope you beat the heat. Looking forward to Sill Me.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your travels! I loved Maggie O'Farrell's books, and enjoyed This Must Be the Place. I'm eager to read Promise Not to Tell.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Have fun traveling, and hopefully the weather moderates a bit! It's always tough when it gets too hot to do anything. And thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteBoth Hearts of Resistance and The Tuscan Child look nice.
I hope you have a wonderful week and have a safe and fun trip with your sister. Enjoy your new books and happy reading. ❤️😁
ReplyDeleteStrange to think you are hot while we are cold. :-) I will be watching for your reviews as those both look good. Hope your traveling goes well. It is awful when people pirate books. Ugly and sad.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading this week!
Looks like you read some good books. I really enjoy that Luanne Rice book, but all her books are pretty great.
ReplyDeleteOne day I long to say I can walk to the beach...so jealous. I have struggled with Maggie O'Farrell - I want to like her books, but I never quite seem to....I feel I'm missing out.
ReplyDeleteI have heard so many good things about This Must Be the Place; I hope it works well for you! The cover on The Tuscan Child is gorgeous, right? Also, I love Jojo Moyes; I'll be interested to hear what you think of Still Me. I hope you have a great week, Kathryn; try to stay cool!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip! All of the books on your list look so good. Enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteThe Tuscan Child is on my reading list for next month. Donna from Girl Who Reads
ReplyDeleteI got This Must Be the Place on a a Kindle $1.99 deal after I heard it was MMD Book Club pick...looking forward to reading it soon!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip. Looks like you've read some great books. I'll check out your link about book stealing. That's terrible!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your reviews because both books interest me. Enjoy your trip and soak up some sun for me!
ReplyDeleteEarly morning walks on the beach sounds lovely! Enjoy your trip next week. Those authors are new to me, but I do love books set in WWII. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteENJOY your traveling and visiting with your sisters.
ReplyDeleteI like the heat. :)
Gorgeous covers on all of your books.
Have a wonderful week, Kathryn.
I was in Arizona last week visiting my parents. It was sunny and warm which prompted early morning walks. It reminded me that I need to continue - but now I'm home in the snowy north. The streets are too icy for me to walk outdoors. Spring will be here eventually :) I think I'll be using an audible credit for Still Me. I really liked the second book in audio format. I read The Tuscan Child last week and I thought it was good. I much prefer her previous WWII book In Farleigh Field.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday Kathryn I've seen Hearts of Resistance around and it looks really good. I just finished listening to a WWI era epic novels by a Canadian author, Tides of Honour. I'm featuring it and her on the 15th of Feb with an international audible giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've got to get back into Danielle Steel's books. I used to listen to them on my commute to and from work. This one is on my list, maybe I'll pick it up this week. My library checkout book pile is getting low.
ReplyDeleteI keep saying I'm burned out on WWII books and I'm not going to read any for a while - then I get sucked into yet another that turns out to be great! Amazing how many different locations, events, and perspectives there are to dig into.
ReplyDeleteMy neighborhood book group read a Maggie O'Farrell novel that everyone loved - The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. Hope you enjoy the one you are reading.
Enjoy your books this week - and your trip and seeing your sisters!

Book By Book
Have a safe trip and have lots of fun!! I really want to read the Rhys Bowen book you finished, hopefully I can get to it this year as I like her writing.
ReplyDeleteI love your thoughts about all of these books and now I am interested in this author...Soraya M.Lane. The cover is awesome. I read the pirating article, too...interesting and sad!
ReplyDeleteHot air, that has been a while
ReplyDeleteThis Must Be the Place looks good and I have The Tuscan Child coming up on my reading list. It looks gorgeous. I hope you enjoy your trip and have a good time at the fabric stores. That sounds almost as dangerous as a bookstore! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYou've got an excellent mailbox. Making a note of a couple of those books for my TBR. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking recently that I've never read a Danielle Steel novel, and she's one of the highest selling authors ever! I just need to pick one and dive in. :-) Enjoy your travels, and please send some of the hot weather my way!
ReplyDeleteWe have some warmer weather this winter; it's been high 60's. Next week is supposed to be low to mid-70's. I hope you have the best time on your mini trip. I hope to see your new fabric stash. Did you go with something in mind to get or you'll get what you'll like once you see it?
