It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Well we are at the end of January. Flew past. And I am still waiting for summer, haven't been above 20 degrees C or 68 F so....!!!!! Today - drizzle. Sunshine please show your face.

I have spent time reading and quilting and chores. First two always enjoyable. I am learning to free motion quilting which is all about practice to gain skills. It is a bit like learning to drive a car or ride a bike, you have to get that point of balance and co-ordination and I am not there yet. But I like learning something new. When a former colleague asked me how I was learning I said "Online". She laughed because she said "That is so you". I was online with all my class much of the time learning when I was teaching. All I can say opportunities are there, and if they are not in your own town well where else to go! Yay for online.

What I read last week

Reviews to follow on both of these.

  1. Hope summer arrives soon! I am jealous that you got Echoes in Death. Can't wait to read it. Hope to get to The Wicked City soon.

  2. I miss the sunshine here too. Hope you get some warmer weather. I can't wait for spring.

That's cool that you are learning quilting techniques online. When I was trying to teach myself to crochet I watched some videos on YouTube. Unfortunately I didn't really get very far. I have learned some other stuff like origami folding and napkin folding though. So handy to be able to watch instructions sometimes :)

I look forward to your review of The Wicked City. The new Sarah Jio looks good.

  5. These covers look good. Anything below 68° here in the east bay is slightly cool for us. My husband keeps saying he can't wait for summer and won't complain about the heat again as it's a cold winter for us. We'll see about that.

  8. Honestly, 68F sounds wonderful to me! I just looked and we have a chance of snow coming AGAIN this week, which does not make me happy. I guess I shouldn't complain--lately our weather has been slightly nicer than normal, but the memory of the last winter storm is still a bit too fresh in my memory.

  12. You know, I'm like you. I love the net because you can learn so many thing from it. that's how I learned to make wire wrapped jewellery... didn't even know it excisted before stumbling upon a few tutorials.

I can't wait to read your review of Wicked City. I love that cover!

I'm reading 'The Grin Mill Murder', one of the Miss Fisher's series. Like with the tv series, I started off thinking it would be kind of meh. I'm halfway through and I'm loving it :-)

  13. I'm a big believer in online too. I do a lot of short courses and did most of my degree by distance learning. Plus, those little things, like how to do a particular type of knit - can't be beaten.

  17. Quilting sounds hard, especially that kind. All I can do with a sewing machine is make catnip mats.

  18. I'm curious how the new Beatriz Williams is! I used to lover her stuff, but have gotten kind of overwhelmed since she now seems to publish at least 1 and sometimes 2 books a year.

I hope THE READERS OF BROKEN WHEEL RECOMMEND is enjoyable for you. I really liked it. How is audio? Who is the narrator?

Jealous of THE WICKED CITY. I love Beatriz Williams' books. Looking forward to your review.

Have a wonderful week...I can't believe January is over tomorrow. I guess 2017 is going to be another "fly by" year. :(

  25. Ooh, I love a good werewolf novel! I haven't heard of Maria Lewis, and will look into ordering her books for the library. I am waiting on The Readers of Broken Wheel, because I'll be reading it for book club later in the year. Today isn't going to go above 37F here, so 68 sounds pretty good to me!
