It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

I had a good week, some work in the garden, some quilting, some reading, watching some cricket. And so the week goes by. I also went to see the new school that has been built and about to open. I taught at this school for many years, but now they have moved with new buildings, new name etc. Looks very impressive, great playground for the children. Someone asked would I like to be starting all over again but my resounding answer was "No".

It's official, in my little micro climate in New Zealand we are having the coldest summer in thirty years.  Many other places here are experiencing drought and heat, but not us!  We could sell water! And they say it will be a big commodity in the future!

What I read last week:

Three books for review and all definitely worth reading.

  1. Sorry about the cooler summer. We are experiencing a mild winter but with a blast coming this week. Echoes In Death is one of my anticipated reads this month. Plan on reading The Wicked City this week.

  2. I hope you get some warmer weather soon. I am looking forward to spring.

I've enjoyed some of Sarah Jio's books. I'll have to look for this one sometime.

  3. I hope you finally get warm weather....I would send you some of our summer heat (which should be here by April or May)...if I could.

Enjoy your week...hope you love Whole Latte Life.

  4. Sorry you aren't getting the warm weather although it is good you have plenty of water. So glad you enjoyed your reading this past week.
Happy reading, gardening and quilting this week!

  5. Sorry it's been a cold summer, that must be a bit frustrating. Sounds like you had a good week though.

I like that cover of Who's Afraid Too?

  6. I've been wanting to read Always by Sarah Jio ever since I saw it on another blog. The House of Secrets appeals to me too. Looks like you're reading some awesome books! Hope your summer gets warmer.

  11. Isn't it funny how different the weather can be in different parts of the same country, even in different regions? I live in what's normally a little mild microclimate, but recently we've been hit by some very rare snowstorms, which is totally out of the norm for our balmy little region!

  12. It's interesting to hear about your cold/wet summer in NZ. Here in Western Australia the weather has seemed different this summer, the cold and wet days we had for three days last week marked out coldest and wettest summer for many years, we have more to come!
Great to see three recommended reads this week - I have seen the Maria Lewis book around a lot lately, it has such an unsual cover!
I read The House of Secrets, I'm still working on my review. On the whole it was a solid read but I think I liked Sara Maning's previous book a little more than this one.
Have a lovely week and enjoy your books, all look great :-)

  13. Hi Kathryn,

This is my first time here, so I hope that I have done everything the right way, please forgive me if I haven't :)

Any J.D. Robb mystery is a must for my list and I haven't read this one, so thanks for the introduction.

Any book about books is also going to grab my attention, so I have also added the Katarina Bivald to my list, although she is a new author to me.

Thanks for sharing and have a great reading week :)

  14. I'm happy to see you enjoyed Always by Sarah Jio. I'll be reading soon, but the one I'm reading now expires (e galley) on 2/14 and I don't want to miss it. Looking forward to your review. Have a wonderful week!!

  15. Good day, Kathryn! I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed both the new Sarah Jio and the Beatriz Williams; I really enjoy reading about the Prohibition and stories set in that era. I may need to check this one out! Hope you have a great week and thanks for hosting! -Tara at itstaraleigh.com

  16. I have fallen sadly behind with the In Death books, because I hit one I just couldn't finish. Maybe it's time to revisit them. Looking forward to your review of Echoes in Death.

  17. All of these look so good. I've never read a Sarah Jio book, and they've been highly recommended. Broken Wheel Recommends has been on my to read list since release. I hope you enjoy them all :)

  18. The 'Groundhog Day' forecast is six more weeks of winter. It feels like it this AM. It looks like you had a good reading week. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

  19. We are having a cold week here, but it looks like things are going to start warming up and keep going up! The groundhog said six more weeks of winter, and it feels like that now but the forecast says otherwise! The Tommi Grayson series sound good, and I'm adding that one to my library TBR. I was at a used book sale on the weekend and picked up a bunch of books from J.D. Robb's In Death series. I need to start on that! Have a great week!

  20. Wow, that's amazing that it's cold there. Our winter has been unusually warm and dry. What a shift.

  21. So many great books on your list this week. I love Jio, DeMaio and Robb. Have a great week!

  22. I enjoyed Whole Latte Life when it was first published. I think the author continues to write better with each successive novel. Hope your weather improves. We're still in the throes of winter and won't see anything popping out of the earth for at least two months. Have a good week, Kathryn.

  23. The Manning one looks interesting!

  24. Great post Kathryn. I'm reading a May offering for RT Book Reviews Magazine! Happy Monday!

  25. Ah, I am jealous of your quiet, uneventful week! I'm hoping things will slow down a bit for me this week.

Looks like some good reading for you, too - I've been interested in Broken Wheel.

    Enjoy your books this week!

  26. Too bad about the weather! Too many rainy days in a row is depressing, especially in the summer! At least it looks like you're getting plenty of time to read! I have always meant to try one of J.D. Robb's books.

  27. Great books on your pile :) Many I would like to read, including the ones by Jio and Lewis. I read Readers of Broken Wheel last year-- I was in the minority of folks who weren't too crazy about it... but that's just me. I do enjoy DeMaio, the two titles I've read by her but haven't read this one.

Hope your week ahead is a good one for you.

  29. Sorry to hear about the cold summer...that stinks.

I still haven't read a Sarah Jio book.

Looks like a wonderful week for you.

Have a good one, and I hope the weather improves.

  30. I only just heard of Broken Wheel; it sounds really interesting. Are you enjoying it so far?
That J.D. Robb cover is gorgeous! I've never read her stuff, but I see her books a lot. That cover is way better than the ones I've seen.

  31. I had missed your review of The Wicked City so I dashed over and read it. It sounds like our weather is very similar to yours right now. It was nice and warm for awhile but lately it's been freezing and constantly raining. Somehow I've never read DeMaio but I always love her covers. Have a great week!

  32. The House of Secrets is intriguing; it feels like it may be like a Kate Morton? What a great week you had. How interesting to see your former school transformed.
