Sheila at Book Journey runs It's Monday! What Are You Reading? While this meme is not fully active at present I will be linking up as well to the Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
I had a good week, but didn't achieve the reading I usually do. I read a book that took a lot of reading so it slowed me up a bit, which is okay. On Wednesday evening I hosted our knitting circle (just 4 of us) I am the only one still knitting my share of the nativity set, the others have finished theirs and moved on. I've been too distracted by other things! Anyway we enjoyed ourselves and it was near 11 p.m. when they looked at the time and left! I took the photo so I am out of shot near the fire that was keeping us warm!
I took my 91 year old Dad shopping for two budgies on Saturday, because his cat had passed on and he felt the need of another pet. I managed it all till we got home to his place, and then I was trying to do something in the cage, accidentally let one out and skewed the cage all funny. We limited the escaped budgie to the sun room and then called in the rescuers in the form of one of my brothers - he put all to rights and caught the escaped budgie. Pets and me don't really match!
I had a good week, completed my goal for the week and even took up the weekly step numbers up just a tad. Even with that I only walked 5 days and rested two.
A shout out to all Fitreader walkers for a month well exercised. We are going into July soon!
What I read last week:
A Year of Marvellous Ways was the book that took much reading.
The Perfect Bargain a very light romance.
What I am reading at present:
Still listening to Spring Fever, about 50% through it and enjoying it very much.
I have just begun The Flower Arrangement - set in Dublin and by an Irish author. Liking it so far. Another gorgeous cover too, although as the novel is just a tad dark it misleads just a little.
Up next:
Making Magic by Donna June Cooper.
Posts from the last week:
- A New Hope Robyn Carr
- A Year of Marvellous Ways Sarah Winman
- Zac and Mia A. J. Betts
Reminder:
For those of you who complete a month in review / wrap up, there will be a post up later in the week to link up to as you publish your post over the first week of July.
I like the sound of A Year of Marvellous Ways - I haven't heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'm a bit the same with pets. I don't have any and it all seems like too much of a hassle now!
Deb
The Flower Arrangement looks good.
ReplyDeleteFunny story about the escaped budgie...not funny while it was happening, though, I'm sure.
Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
Glad the pet didn't escape! Yikes that would make one nervous. A Year Of and Spring fever both have nice covers, and sound good. Covers do matter, I agree! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Perfect Bargain looks yummy. I am glad your knitting club had fun and the dog didn't get out.
ReplyDeleteCatching a bird trapped in a house must be difficult, your brother is skilled ! I'm glad your knitting club was so enjoyable that time flew by, I need to go back to knitting, though I'm a lot better at crochet. Have a great week ;)
ReplyDeleteA Year of Marvellous Ways sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteHaving one book take a little longer to read can be both good and bad... if it's because the book is excellent, it's good, right?
I'm glad you managed to get help with your dad's new pets. We don't have any pets either, we used to have a rabbit, but we were all so sad when he died, I just don't want any more now. My youngest keeps asking for a dog, but we travel so much, it just wouldn't work.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

Well done on hitting your step goal, especially as you did it over 5 days. And roll on July! I feel June was hit and miss for me exercise wise and I'm determined to have a great July!
ReplyDeleteThe Flower Arrangement looks good, Ella is a local author that I have yet to try but I do want to someday soon.
The perfect bargin looks good. Birds and me do not get on so I would have freaked out when the bird escaped LOL have a great week.

Budgies are parakeets right? I am not a big bird person. They are awfully pretty to look at - outside. We have four cats though - so even if I loved birds as pets it would be like Tweety and Sylvester.
ReplyDeleteSeems that you've got some goodies for me to add to my lists this week.
ReplyDeleteI really like your argyle chair!
I hope to read a Year of....soon, it does look good but very wordy (if that makes sense)
ReplyDeleteGlad the bird was caught! A friend spent £250 on a new bird and accidentally left their back door open resulting in no more bird!
Have a lovely week.

What is it with fake boyfriend scenarios that totally suck me in?!?!? I love them and this one looks so cute! I think the kilt is doing it for me!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the fitreader! Way to blow through your goal! I think the knitting can wait - that's great for rainy days :D
Have a great week!!
I listened to Spring Fever and thought it was cute - her books are great on audio! I love the cover of The Flower Arrangement...will have to look into that one.
ReplyDeleteGreat job making your step goal this week...I was able to make mine, too. I just got a ton of new audios, so I have no excuse not to get out and get my walking in now!!!
Have a great week!
I didn't know what a budgie was so I had to look it up. They are cute and I'm with you about pets! The only pet I had as a kid was a goldfish and it didn't live long. So when we got a dog my husband knew what to do. I wouldn't have been lost lol.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read The Perfect Bargain! I received the email from Netgalley but I've been working really hard to improve my review ratio so I just pre-ordered it. I loved Julia London's other books so I couldn't pass this up.
You did great on your exercise! Keep up the great week and I hope you have a nice week!
Your escaped budgie story made me chuckle. I can just imagine it! And you're in a knitting group: how wonderful! I recently joined one that meets a few times a month; it's nice to get together with other crafters and just work and chat. I'm finishing up a sock (my portable project) and a lace-weight shawl (a little less portable at this point, but not a difficult knit.)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and enjoy your Irish book - it looks lovely!
Knitting is a skill I'd love to learn how to do. I'm hoping when my youngest is in school full time I'll be able to actually learn how to do it. For now I'll just admire those that do! The budgie story made me laugh. I'm good with dogs but birds make me a little nervous with the flying and all so you have my sympathy! I just one a Mary Kay Andrews book in a giveaway and I'm really excited to try her. The Flower Arrangement cover has been catching my eye and I didn't realize it was set in Ireland. Another major plus. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize what type of pet that was until I read some of the other comments. I'm glad all ended up okay after that! I have 2 cats, and some days they can be VERY frustrating.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with your steps! I can not believe we're entering another month already. Gah...where is the time going?!
I hope you have a lovely week!
I love Mary Kay Andrews and Spring Fever is a good one. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteGlad the escaped budgie was caught without any injuries. We are pet free and plan to stay that way. I had a poor week fitness wise, but hope this upcoming week will be better. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteLooks like another good reading week. Mary Kay Andrews is an author I want to read. Look forward to seeing what you think of Spring Fever.
ReplyDeleteI'm generally a fan of Irish writers and books set in Ireland so I hope you enjoy The Flower Arrangement.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

I don't do either pets or plants. I get easily distracted and am afraid I'd forget about them. I hope your dad enjoys his new birds. I like the looks of some of your books but haven't read any of them. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSadly A a Year of Marvellous ways was my first DNF this year. Glad you enjoyed it though, it had some beautiful writing.
