FitReaders - Look back at February

This is being hosted by Jen at That's What I'm Talking About and later on at the Geeky Bloggers Book Blog.  It is a wonderful way to link with others who are making sure exercise is a part of their daily lives - and not just all sitting and reading!

I had a good month of walking and meeting my goals, in the third week I missed out by just over a 1000 steps so not too bad. Last week and I went over a little, so altogether balanced out!

Week just gone by:
graph of walking week

I listened also to three and a half audiobooks too so walking has side benefits! I am just about ready to start listening to Wedding Ring by Emilie Richards on my next walk out.

I most likely will stick to my goal of 55 000 steps a week for March, although what I aim to do is vary my route and walk a different way at least once a week. I am a woman of routine!!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organise yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Well not to much time or energy for walking this week, so have not even been looking at my steps. Instead I have been sweating it out washing down walls etc in readiness for painting this coming week. While I won't be doing the painting I will be helping out and at sixes and sevens as we move everything about. Should be good though when done.

Just kitchen, lounge and dining area. Walls colour was easy as want to carry through the light yellow I have but kitchen cabinets proving more difficult. Paint test pots and painted cardboard all around. Wanted violet but doesn't fit with rest of furnishing, so most likely a blue with violet tinge to it. To be considered!

So not sure how much time I will have for visiting/commenting but will see. Not sure how much reading I will achieve either!

What I read last week:

Reviews will be posted for both of these. The Expatriates was a serious read and Three Promises light reading to follow.

What I am reading at present:

Reading an Urban Fantasy book set in Scotland and New Zealand. Liking what I have read!

Still listening to:
Long book, but hooked by it.

My Week:

So this week I made my goal with a little to spare. Saturday was a rest day with a little lawn mowing thrown in.

I'm still listening to A Little Love by Amanda Prowse - very well narrated so enjoying it. Hope you all had a great week of exercise.

Didn't quite make my goal this week. Wednesday I didn't walk and then Friday some lawn mowing but no walk!

I finished the audiobook The Seafront Tearooms by Vanessa Greene and now I am listening to A Little Love by Amanda Prowse.

Went 10 000 steps over my goal so happy. Friday I did not walk but mowed lawns instead. I usually take a rest day so that was it!

Listening to The Seafront Tearooms by Vanessa Green as I walk. Pleasant listening.

I upped my goal again this week so it is now 55 000 a week.
Saturday is a rest day, a little bit of housework and a little bit of reading!

At present I am listening to:
The Ones We Trust by Kimberley Belle.  I heard about The Ones We Trust book over at the Romantic Times in the mainstream fiction area and decided to give it a go. Enjoying it so far, takes my mind away from the walking!

My week.

This week I had to go and buy a new pair of shoes to walk in. My beloved purple ones are a little the worse for wear after two years of fitreader's walking! So relegated to the garden etc and in with the new. I only like Nike Pegasus because they fit me well. I was happy to know they weren't stocking pink in store, the one colour I'd have problems wearing!

I have just been doing a little thinking about shoes because I read Brandie's  post thinking about new shoes, then I opened my copy of the Australian Women's Weekly and they said every 500-800 km. (For runners, so maybe walkers can get away with more?)

An online site Prevention says if you walk 45 - 60 min three times a week (I do) it should be about every 5 months.  So I need to rethink my shoe buying! I catapulted into the shoe shop during the week because of foot pain and er... I dropped gardening compost all over one shoe.

How often do you change your shoes?

I had a very good week and ended up surpassing my goal. As you can see there might be a story to Wednesday. Yes, it was exceedingly cold - very wet and very windy. Winter blasted the country for a day and then thank goodness took off again.

Have just started listening to Born in Death by J. D. Robb which will probably see me through most of November.

This week I upped my goal just a very small bit. I also am aiming for slightly longer walks on 2 to 3 days a week. That 82 year old has made me move a little more!

I walked 5 days and the other two days were given over to gardening and lawn mowing. Even cleaned a couple of windows! Arm work out!

Here ends October and now walking into November!

FitReaders Check In

badge

This week I decided to do a separate check in for fitreaders. During the week I was out walking and met up with a work colleague from way back- a visiting teacher, who sometimes worked in our school.  She wanted to know if I would like to join her and a few others for a walking group. I declined because I like getting through audiobooks when out walking.

As we walked awhile together, I discovered she is now 82 years of age and a very keen walker. Well! If you can look nothing like 82 and be out walking (way faster than me) then walking is the way to go.

It inspired me to throw in a couple of longer walks in my week. Thought I might do three. But two longer ones is probably enough for now.

So anyway my week was good and achieved above my goal. Might be time to up my goal a little.

Goal met with a little to spare. Didn't go full out but made sure I got out to walk each day.

It's Spring. You can tell that locally here by the flowers on the Kowhai (pronounce - KOR-fye) tree seen in on my front lawn. It's native to New Zealand and the tui bird loves to come and get the nectar in them. I have one that flies from one tree to another, they are a little aggressive but have a distinctive song.  Kowhai is the Maori word for yellow so quite aptly named.  And guess who loves yellow!  It's nearly as good as purple.

A sister had my sewing machine for quite some months, so no quilting practice. However she finally finished the curtains and my machine came home. I had pinned the backing, front and batting together and now I am supposedly stitching in the ditch to link it all together. Actually quite difficult to  stitch along the ditch so mine wavers in and out, but will still have my first quilt at the end. (Fingers crossed).

I achieved just slightly above my goal for the week. I've signed up again for the month of October.

Oh my gosh, October - 2015 slow down! We went into Daylight saving last Sunday morning, however it hasn't affected me as much as it sometimes does, might be my time clock was a little unsettled anyway with my trip last week to Melbourne.
